Part 2
Instructions: One participant will be the speaker (verbal communicator), the second
will be the active listener and the third will be the observer. Role play should take
approximately 5 minutes. The following are the specific tasks for each role:
• Speaker: Explain your answers to the above question.
(Note: Focus on using clear and simple language, and speaking clearly. In
addition, pay attention to the listener's verbal and non-verbal signs: what he/she
says, but also the body language he/she uses.)
• Listener: Demonstrate active listening skills by paraphrasing (repeating in your
own words) what the speaker said.
(Note: Concentrate on what the speaker is saying and ask questions to
paraphrase correctly. In addition, show positive non-verbal signs, e.g., nodding
and smiling.)
• Observer: Provide feedback to both participants, using the questions below.
