4 GENERAL NOTES

Areas lacking protection are not accepted on ferrous materials.

Suitable protection for machined surfaces shall be provided on drawing.

Light alloy parts can be not protected (it depends if the aluminum alloys has corrosion resistance
properties). Otherwise protection should be required, specify it on the drawing (following the indica
tions of Table V).

Brass or copper parts must not be protected.

5 MECHANICAL OPERATIONS TO REMOVE EDGES

Implement the operations described in Table II to improve anticorrosion protection on cut edges.

[1] Operation to eliminate possible oxide points.

Obligatory for intermitted weld and near zones. For tubes internal and external surfaces must be
cleaned and free from corrosion, welding spatter, residual impurities due to laser cutting and com
bustion scales.
[2] Alternative products and cycles are allowed if they are compatible with the part treated and con
form to the Table IV characteristics.
[3] Only for not prepainted ferrous parts.
[4] Use specific phosphating products for galvanized sheet iron or aluminium.
[5] Pretreatment cycles that do not contain zinc phosphates or iron phosphates should not be used,
for parts in classes A, A1, A2, B and B2, with the exception of aluminium substrates.

[6] Excluding those parts that cannot be submitted to pretreating or painting baths since these pro
cedures impair their operation (e.g.: mechanical parts).

[7] As concerns aluminium, specific corrosion-proof pre-treatments to be used as an alternative to

cataphoresis and rust preventer are admitted.

[8] Stage not required for prepainted aluminium and prepainted sheet.

[9] Only parts to be assembled on engine.

[10] The coating film thickness must be sufficient to fulfill the requirements indicated on Table IV.

[11] Parts that cannot be treated with cataphoresis (see previous note).

[12] Powder top coat shall only be used for body parts (e.g.: windscreen wipers, rear-view mirrors,
etc.).

[13] The colour is specified on drawing.
