A. Instruction:
Each student is going to write an analysis of a short story or a film, by applying Tzvetan
Todorov’s Equilibrium and Disequilibrium Theory. Student is at his/her liberty to choose
the desired short story or film.

B. Submission:
The analysis is to be submitted to the cyber of Narratology Class in session 8, the mid-
test. Each student has to upload his/her analysis in a Microsoft Word Document file. The
submission must be done at the scheduled time of the mid-test. Late submission will not
be graded.

Synopsis

Dora Marquez lives in the Peruvian jungle with her family. Dora's parents, Cole and Elena, are
adventurers. They're on a quest to find Parapata, the great Inca legend. Dora has a best friend in
the form of a monkey named Boots. She has always wanted to go on an adventure since she
was a child. Dora has a cousin who lives close to her home. Diego is his name. Diego and his
family should relocate to Los Angeles one day. Dora is depressed. Dora is maturing into a
cheerful and adventurous young lady several years later. She recalls the story about Parapata
and wishes to track it down. Dora's parents, on the other hand, request that she travel to the
city. They believe that sending Dora to Los Angeles for education is the best option. She must
make a human friend. Dora does not want to go, but she is forced to by her parents. She lives
with Diego in her new home. Diego, on the other hand, has undergone significant
transformation. When he goes to school with Dora, he feels embarrassed. Everyone at Dora's
school thinks she's odd. Dora and a classmate go on a study tour to a museum one day. She
needs to form a group. Except for Diego, Randy, and Sammy, everyone has a group. Dora and
her friends are unexpectedly invited to a secret room. It's a snare. That is where Dora and her
friends embark on their adventure. They are brought to Peru by some mysterious people to
assist them in locating Dora's parents, who are on their way to Parapata. They try to flee, but
they are stopped by a man who introduces himself as Dora's parents' friend. Alejandro Gutierrez
is an Ancient Languages professor. Dora and his friends have faith in him. They agree to look for
Dora's parents from that point forward. They eventually find Dora's parents after a long journey
through the jungle. Surprisingly, Alejandro is not a friend of Dora's parents, but he is one of the
mercenaries who want to find Parapata for their own benefit. As a result, the mercenaries
compel Dora and her parents to show them the way to Parapata. However, they successfully
escape from those mercenaries in the middle of the journey to protect Parapata from all greedy
people. Finally, they discover the Inca City of Gold. They are unaware that Alejandro is silently
following them. When Dora and her friends discover the gold, Alejandro, greedy as he is, steals
it from them. Parapata will be destroyed if the gold is not obtained. As a result, Dora and his
friends' final mission is to take the gold and place it in the proper location. After battling the
Gods in the Parapata, they can return the gold to its proper location. They are victorious. After
that, they return home, perhaps empty-handed, but with many priceless memories. Diego and
Sammy become a couple after the rest of the group departs. Dora's parents and the teens arrive
at her jungle home, where the parents of the other teens are waiting and delighted to see them.
Dora's parents discuss going on another family expedition, but she decides to return to school in
Los Angeles. Dora has finally made friends and is enjoying her school life.

Equilibrium order

Dora Marquez, a six-year-old girl, lived in the Peruvian jungle. She is the daughter of Cole and
Elena, two jungle explorers. She spends her days adventuring with her monkey pal Boots and
her cousin Diego. Diego and his family leave for Los Angeles one day, while Dora and her parents
remain in the jungle in search of the fabled Inca city of gold. Dora's parents decide to send her
to Los Angeles to further her education after she has grown up. In fact, her adventure begins
there.

Equilibrium is the initial stage in which all of the characters coexist peacefully. The characters
live normal lives and go about their daily activities. Dora and her family live a normal life in the
Peruvian jungle until Dora is forced to relocate to the city. Dora will notice the changes when

Disruption of that order by an event

They are locked in a place one day while on a class field trip to a museum, where they are
arrested by mercenaries led by Powell, who fly them to Peru. The reason for this is that the
antagonist in this film is aware that Dora's parents have discovered the hidden Inca city of gold.
As a result, they believe Dora can lead them to a hidden city. Dora and her friends have no idea
at first. But, once in Peru, they meet a man who pretends to be one of her parents' friends and
offers to help them find their parents.

Disruption is the point at which the characters first encounter a problem. The first issue in this
film arises when Dora and her classmates go on a class trip to a museum. They are apprehended
and taken to Peru by mercenaries. Dora will be taken on a real adventure as a result of this
occurrence.
Recognition of the disorder

When they finally meet the parents in the jungle, the man begins to reveal himself; he is one of
the film's antagonists. Then they kidnap Dora, her parents, and her friends and force them to
search for the lost city. After realizing that something is wrong, they attempt to free themselves
from the antagonist while still searching for the hidden gold.

The stage of recognition occurs when the characters finally recognize the problem that they
must confront. Dora initially has no idea why she has been kidnapped by mercenaries. Dora
realizes, after meeting Alejandro, that the mercenaries are looking for her parents, who
discovered the Inca City of Gold. As a result, Dora and her friends agree to search for the lost
city in order to save the gold from the mercenaries.
Attempt to repair damage

Dora and her friends are still searching for the lost Inca city of gold. As a result, they discover it.
But it isn't finished yet because Alejandro is silently following them. He makes an attempt to
steal the gold. Alejandro is ultimately defeated as a result of his greed.

At this point, the characters attempt to solve the problem. Dora and her friends attempt to flee
the mercenaries and save Parapata. They finally discover the long-lost Inca City of Gold. To keep
the gold safe from greedy people, they must first find the location before the mercenaries.
Restoration – brings a new equilibrium

Of course, their lives would never be the same again. Dora, her parents, and her friends are
overjoyed to have discovered the hidden city of gold. Dora’s parents actually ask Dora to join
them for the next adventurous. However, she chooses to go back to her school with her friends.
Dora and her friends gain new experiences and, most importantly, a new life.

At this point, the characters have successfully solved the story's problem. After that, they
resume their normal lives while adjusting to their new circumstances. Dora chooses to go to the
city in the film because she now has friends. She embarks on a new life. This is in contrast to
what happened earlier when Dora refused to go to the city. Everyone does not want to be
Dora's friend at first because she is strange. Dora, on the other hand, has revealed a new and
intriguing side to them. By that, Dora’s new life brings a new equilibrium for the movie.
