Introduction

Managed care can be defined as the system that integrates the financing and delivery of

appropriate health care using a comprehensive set of services. Furthermore, managed care is

knowns as health care delivery system constituted to reduce cost, utilization, and quality.

According to Kimuyu (2018), the cost and quality of managed care are always considered as the

most critical factors that influence healthcare suitability worldwide (p. 1). The effective managed

care should contain the following elements that include utilization review and healthcare

provider networks or arrangements. Finally, managed care plays significant roles, shortcomings

and clarifies its impact on the patient-centered care (PCC).

Significant Roles and Shortcoming of Managed Care

The managed care has the difference significant roles and shortcomings depending on the

healthcare and patients’ interpretations. Generally, the importance of the managed care that

enables it to have global market demands include cost reduction, network providers, unity of the

family, easier prescription of management. However, the following are some of the drawbacks

that hinder the expansion of managed care in the market such as rigidity of the rules, limited

provider coverages, forceful advocating, loss of privacy, and technical error of the networks.

Nevertheless, the managed care has fundamental benefits that ought to be considered by the

patients while choosing medication choices in the healthcare due to its better services plan.

How Managed Care Affects Patient- Centered Care

The managed care has both positive and negative consequences to PCC. For instance, PCC is all

about treatment of the patient with dignity, respect and participation in their health decisions

through managed care. Moreover, increase in the patient satisfaction would be noticed when

physicians and nurses are well trained to focused on PCC (R Askeer et al. 2021). Conversely,

negative effects in managed care such as fear to take risk and uncertainties could be a barrier for

PCC. Therefore, PPC should always consider utilizing the managed care that produces outcomes

as per their expectations.

Conclusion

The healthcare and patients should always utilize the managed care facilities because of their

better service. Besides, PCC can able to meet their expected satisfactory services when prioritize

the usage of managed care. Consequently, the challenge facing managed care as mentioned in

second paragraph ought not to discourage patients from making their choices. Therefore,

managed care is most favorable and recommended to be used in the whole world.
