Explain what is ‘Stock Type’ is in MM.

The subdivision of inventory at a storage location based on the usage of that inventory is called ‘Stock Type’. It is used in
the determination of available stock of a material. The different types
of stock types in SAP are,
Valuated stock
Un – restricted stock
Restricted stock
Quality inspection stock
Stock – in – transfer
Blocked stock
Non – Valuated stock
GR blocked stock

Explain what ‘Transfer Posting’ is in MM

If there is a logical change in the stock type/status, then this kind of ‘transfer’ is called as the ‘transfer posting’. The
transfer posting may be from,
A product to product
A quality inspection to unrestricted use
A consignment store to storage location.

Explain the term ‘Stock Transfers’ in MM.

The physical movement of stock between locations is termed as the ‘Stock Transfer’. Stock Transfer can be within a
plant or between plants. The stock transfers can be carried out either a single
step or in two steps. The stock transfer may be from
A company to company
A plant to plant
A storage location to storage location.

Explain the events during a ‘Goods Issue’ (GI).

Goods Issue (GI) results in a reduction in the stock quantity /value. The GI can be planned or un – planned.
The events during a Goods Issue are,
Creation of a material/accounting document
Updation of reservation for the issue
Updating GL accounts
Updation ‘points of consumption’ if applicable
Updation of stock quantity.

Explain the events during a ‘Goods Receipt’ (GR).

Goods Receipt (GR) results in an increase in the quantity/value of the stock in a plant/warehouse. The GR may be ‘with
or without reference to a Purchase Order’. The events during a Goods Receipt
are,
A material document
An accounting document (not mandatory)
GR slip printing
GL account updation
Quantity updation
A stock transfer order
Purchase order history updation.
