Since software is always a work in progress, any version, while representing a milestone, is
nevertheless but a point in a continuum. Those individuals whose contributions created the
foundation upon which this work is built have not been forgotten. The current authors would
like to thank the previous contributors.
A special thanks is also extended by the authors to everyone who contributed through
countless hours of proof-reading and testing.

Refinery Feed 1-3
1.1 Introduction
The Refinery Feed operation is a unique logical unit operation available
within the HYSYS.Refinery flowsheet. Refinery Feeds are added to a
simulation in the Main Simulation Environment.

add the operation to your flowsheet. The operation will appear as an oil
barrel icon on the flowsheet.

The Streams group lists all the current streams available from the
flowsheet which are considered Refinery streams (i.e. have a KBC Assay
associated with them). All streams attached to the Refinery Feed model
will appear as Logical connections on the flowsheet.
When multiple inlet streams (or KBC Assays) are added, they must be
blended in proportions defined on the Assays tab.

Specification. A description of each method is outlined below:
Composition
Description
Specification
Allows you to define composition for an assay based
TBPcut
on an initial and final true boiling point cut range.
Allows you to enter the specific composition value
Composition
directly.
Distillations may be given on a TBP volume, TBP
Distillation weight, D86, D86L or D1160 test basis to define
composition data.

The five mandatory temperatures are for the 5, 10, 30, 50 and 70 lv%
points.
The Cracking Factor cell specifies the cracking factor for the stream
from this assay and must be a value between 0.0 and 1.0. The model
1-7
1-8 Introduction
uses the factor for the stream in all calculations, to convert from D86 to
TBP and from TBP to D86. The default value of 0.0 means that the
program makes no correction for cracking. A value of 1.0 means that
the full cracking correction is performed, as specified in the API data
handbook (ADD REFERENCE).
