Chapter IV

PRESENTATION OF RESULTS, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION

The chapter of this study is consist of the responses of participants regarding

with their personal background, the process of their transition from being male to female

and its effects, issues they encountered as a transsexuals as well as how do they deal

with these struggles. The reseacher present an analysis followed by their responses as

to how the researcher interpret the data being gathered.

Family Composition
Family Structure P1:. “Nung nandun po po ako sa labas. Tatlo po kaming

magkakapatid, yung step father ko po tas yung kapatid ko

pong bunso tas yung iba ko pong mga kapatid may

pamilya na po.” (Pobre, )

P2:“Lola ko po. Lola, lolo po. Tas si papa, step mother ko

 The above table presented the participant Family composition, 3 out of 5 namely

Pobre, Robinhood and Einstein were composed of 4 siblingswhile 2 of them were

composed of 5 siblings, they were Pau and Pobre. Pobre grow up with a step-father,

while Robinhood and Pau was raise by their Step-Mother while Einstein was raised by

his Lolo and Lola.

3 of the 5 children came from “Broken Homes” whose parents are either

separated or remarried.Robinhood stated that his parent were separated when he was

young, when asked if he knows the reason of the separation, he only stated that his

mother had vices and his father left her because of it.“may bisyo daw po yung mama

ko. Ayun nga po hindi ko na po inalam yung bisyo kasi alam ko na po kung anong

bisyo po nun. Kung ano ano daw po ang binebenta tapos pinag bibisyo lang daw po

tapos kaya hiniwalayan ni papa” He then, never asked anything about his biological

mother again because he was seems to be in favor with it eventhough he consider this

as some form of abandonment. Pobre described his family as “watak-watak”

(Incomplete) because ever since he was young, he really finds it rare for all of them to

get all together because they don’t really have a strong family bond he stated that the
only time he can see his family gather in the same house, is when there is a special

occasion.

Einstein shows deep feelings of resentment towards his real parent as he

expressed.“broken family po kami… wala naman po akong tatay. wala din pong

mama ang nag-alaga lang po samin eh ang lolo at lola ko”. When asked about his

biological parent, he only replied.”Yung tatay ko po kasi una sa lahat wala siyang

kwenta para sa akin… Kasi po iniwan niya po kami eh”

On the other hand, The Boy came from an intact family, he even described his

parents as:“mama at papa ko naman po nagpupursigido po sila para sa mga

kapatid ko para makapag-aral ng maayos ang mga kapatid ko,naghahanap buhay po

sila”

One chid, named PauPau, felt abandoned by both parents because he was not

given any attention since both of the parents are working.“minsan po di po kami

masyadong nabibigyan ng pansin kasi po ano may ginagawa rin po sya sa trabaho

nila. “

There are instances when children who return home to empty houses have to

await the return of their parents. Tendency is that the children are probably home alone,

and as a result, creates an “emotional vacuum,” where children grow up without any

values or goals.
Sibling/step brother P1: ”nagtatampo tas nagseselos sa mga kapatid ko naiinis

parang feel ko po ano, di. Puro pangako nalang po… di ko po

pinapakita kasi di po ako yung ano kung ano yung hinanakit

sa sarili di ko po sinasabi sa sa magulang ko yun kasi di ko

po hilig na ganun eh kahit po sa barkada ko di po ako

nagsasalita. Sinasarili ko lang po talaga.”- ( Pobre, )

P1: dun po samin minsan po ok tas minsan meron di

pagkakaintindihan yung isa ko pong kuya kasi di ko na po

nagkakasama sa loob ng bahay pag pumupunta lang sya sa

bahay. Pero yung isa ko pong kuya ano pangalawa na ano

po yung sa sigarilyo po nauunawaan po kasi siya din po

nagsisigarilyo. Pero sa ibang bagay na natikman ko,

pinagbabawalan po ako kasi ayun nga po kasi masama,

labag sa batas kung ano po yung sinasabi nila yun yung di ko

sinusunod. Kung ano po ang bawal, ayun po ang gusto ko.

P3: “Sa kapatid ko po close ko po yung kuya ko po… At sa

kuya ko po binigyan ko ng pera para po pangbaon niya po

pagpapasok” – (Einstein, )
 P4: “Ahhmm. KAsi po parang nasasaktan din po ako puro

kapatid ko po ang ano po ang lage nilang inaasikaso,

parang ano nagseselos po ako sa kanila, parang

nagtatampo po ako, kaya po ako nakakagawa ng

katarantaduhan po dahil din po sa kanila po – (The Boy)

P5: “minsan lang po pag nagkakabangayan po tapos bati na

Siblings and Step siblings

All of the 5 children has more than 2 brothers. 3 out of the 5 CICL describe their

inner feelings towards their siblings as “nagtatampo at nagseselos” Pobre has some

trust issues with his older brother, he stated “Puro pangako na lang po” he did also

mention that his older brother did run away from home and he seems to be

disappointed with him. He was close with his second brother and he’s the one who

introduce him to smoking, his brother did warned him about consuming illegal

substance but he did not follow and implied “Kung ano pong bawal, ayun po ang

masarap”. The Boy discloses that in his family, his other brothers were the only one who

receives the caring and attention he needs this hurt him a lot. He also stated “ parang

ano nagseselos po ako sa kanila, parang nagtatampo po ako, kaya po ako

nakakagawa ng katarantaduhan po dahil din po sa kanila po”

nagtatampo tas nagseselos sa mga kapatid ko naiinis parang feel ko po ano, di. Puro

pangako nalang po… di ko po pinapakita kasi di po ako yung ano kung ano yung
hinanakit sa sarili di ko po sinasabi sa sa magulang ko yun kasi di ko po hilig na ganun

P1: meron di pagkakaintindihan yung isa ko pong kuya kasi di ko na po talaga na-

aano eh yun sa loob, yung di na po kami nagkakasama sa loob ng bahay pag

Abuse

po sa akin. Sila po yung nagpalaki sakin, Pero po yung

Strict parenting style

History of care takers

Pobre was raised by his mother, but he was uncomfortable and shy when he was

interacting with his step-Father for some unknown reason. He replies:”Yung mama ko

lang po nakaka ano ko. Di ko po nakakausap yung step father ko kasi po nahihiya

po ako. Hmm, sa mama ko po mabait po sya sakin, yung mga inuutos niya po sakin

sinusunod ko”

His primary caretaker was his mother, he obey her most of the time but there are

times where, if he cant convince her mother in doing what he wants, he would just do it,

as if he was compelled to do so and even if he will be scolded after, as long as he gets

what he wants and he was happy about it.

“Pero dumadating yung punto na pag kayung gusto ko di nasusunod, ako nalang po

yung kusang nagdesisyon, minsan po di na po ako nagpapaalam sa kanya kahit na

nagagalit po siya. Sige lang po ako ng sige kasi gusto kopo na ano eh..masaya

ko”
 Robinhood and The Boy, on the other hand, experienced physical, verbal and

emotional abused from their primary caretakers. Although Robinhood didn’t specify the

details of the maltreatment, it was obvious how much hatred he had towards his Step-

mother . He stated:”Yun nga po kasi hiwalay po yung mama ko at papa. Yung step

mother ko po yung na pangasawa niya po, seloso po. Yun din po ang dahilan kung

po ako nagkaganito po. Kasi po binubugbog po ako ng walang dahilan” –

(Robinhood). He even blames his Step-mother to be the reason for what happened to

him. when he was admitted in MYRC, he finally find the strength to tell his Father the

maltreatment that he receives from his partner.

Kaya po ngayon, nung dumalaw po sakin yung papa ko dito, sinabi ko po lahat ng

problema ko.Tas ayun nga po, pina---hiniwalayan na nya po yung step mother ko po.

Kasi po nung nandun pa po ako hindi ko po masabi sa kanya kasi po baka po

hindi maniwala yung papa ko kasi mahal na mahal niya po yung kinakasama niya.”

Einstein also received maltreatment from both of his parents. He narrates his painful

experience from their hands in this brief sentence:”(Mama at papa) “Pinagmumura po

nila ako, minsan po parang tatagain ako ng mama ko, kapag tulog ako kinakadena

po ako” Einstein receives aggressive threats, physical abused and even chained him in

his sleep as a form of discipline from his parents.

The participant named Paupau stated, his Step-mother was strict, He stated”

(Stepmother) trato po sakin ng step mother ko medyo strikto po,yung mga

pagkakamali ko lang po kase parang ayaw nya rin po ng magulo pero di naman po sya

nanakit sisigawan lang po– (Pau)”

The Family Life (Father’s and Mother’s work)
 All their fathers also had jobs- mostly blue collar works such as: carpenter,

Driver, street sweeper, Construction. The mothers, on the other hand, worked as

katulong(Housemaid), “nagbabalot po ng parang damit ng bata ””nagbebenta ng

pagkain dun sa loob ng canteen”

Children Unsatisfied Needs

3 out 5 children stated that theyre needs are satisfied even if the income of their

parents are low. Food stands as the primarily needs for this children, as long as they

have something to eat, they can survive for a day. Pobre admits that the income that his

parents receive from their blue-collar job was enough to fill their stomach but not

enough to satisfy their hunger as well as their needs. He also stated that the other

expenses such as payment for the electricity, water supply and their apartment charge

are paid by debts since his father didn’t have a stable job.

“Sa pagkain po, opo natutugunan po pero minsan nagkukulang po talaga. Di

maiiwasan ung pangungutang sa iba kasi dahil nga po rin sa bahay namin tas kuryente,

tubig minsan po ano may, may time po na nawawalan ng trabaho stepfather” - Pobre

Low income, however, is not the decisive factor but rather one that underlies

many of the other factors. Low income is rather directly related to meager conditions of

family life and insufficient provision in the home for wholesome recreation..

One parcticipant named The Boy said that he can already support himself. At a

very early age, he is no longer relying for support of his family since he thinks that he

was already excluded in his parents prioritythat leads him to feel more distant to them.
“Minsan sarili ko lang po.. Sariling sikap ko lang po kaya po nagkakagamit po ako

kapag ano po minsan po kasi po bumibili sila ng pagkain nila, patago po nila kinakain

po hindi po nila nilalabas lahat sympre po kapag nahuhuli ko silang ganun minsan po

nakakapagtampo”– The Boy

Pau on the other hand, understands his situation but he cant help but get sad

upon facing the fact that he wasn’t able to buy what he wants.

“sa akin po ano.. pag hindi po , minsan po hindi po nasusunod kasi yung ano ko eh,

pero nauunawaan ko naman kase…minsan po napapaiyak po ako kase minsan ko

lang po bilhin yung gamit na yun tapos di pa po.. di pa po mabibili (whispers)”

CICL and their Environment

5 out 5 CICLs grew up in a chaotic environment. 3 of them described their place as a

squatter’s area. They were Robinhood, Einstein and Pobre. One of them even reported

that he witnessed the murder in front of him. While, the rest of them said that people in

their community were doing illegal activities such as selling drugs, stealing, involved in

riots, gamblers, and alcoholic drinkers in the street. The boy did mentioned,

“Maraming trabaho po dun Mam. Marami po kaso po ang trabaho dun illegal po . Drugs

po, mga illegal na trabaho po..nagtitinda ng drugs po tapos magiging runner po taga

kuha po ng drugs. Parang pusher po tapos po kunwari po ako ang runner tapos dun po

ako pupunta sa pusher”-The Boy, The boy admitted his illegal job as a runner who sells

drugs coming from the pusher.

Pau on the other hand, stated,

“ pag ano po, siguro po ngayon marami po kase puro kagaguhan po mga nangyayari

doon eh..”-Pau

Robinhood was describing their community having small and crowded houses near the

river and also called it a squatter’s area.

“Pero po ang bahay po, maliliit tas patong patong, dikit dikit po kaya parang pag

tinignan mo, di mo matatawag na compound, matatawag mo siya na squatter tas tabing

ilog pa po.” -Robinhood

Reaction to discipline P1:Disiplinahin po kasi, lahat naman po ng tayo, lahat

ng sinasabi nila lahat ng, lahat po ng ikagaganda para

sakin sinasabi po nila. Pero ako lang po talaga yung

kusang lumalayo sakanila.

Positive Reaction Towards

Discipline Ahm ano po, ayun nga po yung sa bahay, wag nalang

daw po ako ano. Wag nalang daw po akong umalis

sikapin ko daw po na makapagtapos ako ng pag-

aaral kasi para sakin naman daw po yung

oportunidad na yun pero dahil sa barkada, dahil sa

kagustuhan ko na ano, buhay buhay teenager

pinagpapatuloy ko po na kung ano yung mga nasa isip

ko, kung ano yung mga ayaw ko. Kaya di ko po

naiiwasan na ano, initindihin yung mga sinasabi nila

dahil na din po sa ano sa ginagawa ko. Yung

dahilan po ng pagpunta ko dito

P5: “yung .. pag may ano po , pag may mali po akong

ginagawa sinasaway nya po ako saka ayaw naya po

ako pasamahain sa mga barkada ko po.”

P3: lumalabas na lang po ako.Mag-aaway na lang po

ako dun ko na lang po inaano, kasi hindi ko naman po

 kayang sagutin ang lola ko… naghahanap na lang po

ako ng kaaway

P2: : Opo. Kasi po kapag pinagalitan po ako, iba po

magalit kasi po ano po. Di naman po kasi siguro ako

pagagalitan kung wala akong nagawang masama.

Negative reaction to Pinapagalitan po ako tas tatakas po ako sa bahay,

P4:Lahat po ng gamit namen sinisira ko po,

binabato ko sa labas Kapag pinagsasabihan po ako

High-Level of aggression
nila.. Eh tama naman po ang ginagawa ko nasa tama

naman po sila po kinukontra po nila ako (The Boy)

Reaction to discipline

Each children shows different reaction when it comes to discipline. 2 out of 5

children reacted positively to the discipline and they are Pobre and Pau. Both of the

children understand the reason why they are orderedto behave but still they act against

what their parents expected them to be just because they find it enjoying. Pobre stated

“para sakin sinasabi po nila. Pero ako lang po talaga yung kusang lumalayo

sakanila.dahil sa kagustuhan ko na ano, buhay buhay teenager pinagpapatuloy ko po

na kung ano yung mga nasa isip ko, kung ano yung mga ayaw ko. Kaya di ko po

naiiwasan na ano, initindihin yung mga sinasabi nila dahil na din po sa ano sa

ginagawa ko. Yung dahilan po ng pagpunta ko dito”

 Einstein and the boy reaction to discipline were considered as negative since

both of them doesn’t understand the reason why they are being disciplined. Since he

grew up with his grandmother he narrates how he reacts when he was being scolded.

According to him he try to avoid having argument with his grandmother so he just divert

his anger to something else like looking for someone to fight with.

“lumalabas na lang po ako.Mag-aaway na lang po ako dun ko na lang po inaano,

kasi hindi ko naman po kayang sagutin ang lola ko… naghahanap na lang po ako ng

kaaway” - Einstein

The boy reacts impulsively. He throw and break things when he was being lectured.

“Lahat po ng gamit namen sinisira ko po, binabato ko sa labas Kapag

pinagsasabihan po ako nila.. Eh tama naman po ang ginagawa ko nasa tama naman

po sila po kinukontra po nila ako”

Punishment that is too strict, frequent or severe can lead to a greater probability

of delinquency regardless of parental attachments. That is, a strong parent-child bond

will not lessen the adverse impact of punishment that is too harsh.”Punishment

administered in anger increases a child’s chances of becoming violent.

While Robinhood avoid being lectured by escaping and just meeting his peers

instead “Pinapagalitan po ako tas tatakas po ako sa bahay, babarkada po.

Pagdating ko po, nangsesermon lang po. – robinhood”

Life events that cause the child to be delinquent.

All of the children has this significant life events that they believe to be the main

reason for their deviant behaviours and unlawful act. Most of the children had similar life

stories untl a major family changed occurred such as death of a parent, sudden loss of

source income and being abused by parents.

Robinhood and Einstein both experienced being abused by their parents and from it

both of them develop deep resentment and grudge against those people.

“galit nga po ako sa step sa stepfather ko kasi po nasasaktan niya po yung magulang

tsaka sa kasi umuwe yung mama ko 7 years old pa ako nagsasama po sila nung step

father ko tapos buntis pa po siyatapos lumabas na po yung bunso namin. Kasi nga po

naiinis ako sa stepfather ko sinasaktan niya po yung magulang ko sabi ko sa isip isipan

ko paglake ko magtatanim po ako ng galit sa kanya pag lumaki po ako– Einstein”.

.”Yung step mother ko po yung napangasawa niya po, selosa po. Yun din po ang

dahilan kung po ako nagkaganito po. Kasi po binubugbog po ako ng walang dahilan –

(Robinhood)”

A father sudden loss of work and a close relative who’s in need of medical

attention, this are the events that pushes the boy’s to commit illegal offenses.

“kasi po kailangan ko rin po ng pera nun kasi.. Sa ano ko po mga kapatid ko po kasi

ano may saket rin lolo ko nun nastroke rin po yun dun ko sana gagamitin yung pera

e ano po maaga po akong nakunsyensya .. opo pangangailagnan kasi po ng araw na

yun nawalan ng trabaho iyong tatay ko nun e natanggal sa trabaho kaya

nakagawa ng ano krimen.Dahil ito sa mga pangangailangan ko po kasi po ang mga

pangangailagan ko po parang di na po kaya ibigay ng mga magulang ko po

The death of Pau’s mother breaks his heart so much that he even blames himself

for her death. “nabalitaan ko na lang po na wala na po yung mama ko, parang

nagalit po ako sa sarili ko kung bakit ganun..” –pau. He is well-aware that His

mother died from cardiac arrest but he still wishes he did spend more time with her

mother instead of his peers.

Street life and Drug Abused

The streets and their peers offer the children the haven that they were seeking away

from their disharmonious families. However, it is also the streets that introduced them to

a life of crime, violence and drugs as well as their social needs. A life of crime was

viewed as necessary if one is to live in the streets, after all, it is the stealing and

snatching, and others that provide for food and drugs as well as their social needs.

One factor which helps them survive in the streets is their “Tropa or Barkada”

(peer group). These friends provides them with companionship, “alaga” or “care” , food

and even bail money when they are arrested/ in simple terms their barkada is their

“family”

Pobre really enjoy being around his peers up and their vices up to the point that he no

longer care if what theyre doing was right or wrong and the consequences that awaits

for them.

When robinhood run away from home,his peers accepted him without knowing

that those people are doing illegal things but because they treated him like a family and

he feel accepted for what he is, instead of retreating away from bad influence, he

acknowledge and accepts them.

Yung mga kaibiga—Yung mga kasama ko na yun, mababait naman po sila sakin. Kasi

po nung lumayas po ako, kinupkop nila ako. Ayun na nga po yung pagkakamali ko eh,

alam ko nang naggaganun sila, hindi po ako—hind po ako lumayo sa kanila, pilit ko

paring siniksik yung sarili ko sa kanila kaya po na ano po ako.

Einstein on the other hand, finds his peers to be quite helpful when he needs

protection everytime he had enemies, and like robinhood, he find happiness in his peers

and enjoy their “inuman” (liquor drinking) session.

The Boy found reliable companions in doing illegal act.

The drugs and the illegal substances, on the other hand, are first taken due to curiosity

after seeing someone using it they have this urge of wanting to experience the same

thrill and wanting to know what it feels like to be drunk, intoxicated or high. CICL takes

illegal substances to give them courage to commit their crimes and forget their unhappy

life and present situation, however after some time, they get addicted and the cycle of

drugs and crimes is established. The participants got involved with alcohol and drugs for

many reasons, including

Curiosity

“Nagulat po ako sa kwarto biglang may ano..umuusok akala ko po sigarilyo. Eh lahat po

ng nandon barkada ko po pumasok po ako sa loob tapos tinignan ko po, hinawakan ko

po yung parang hose, yung tooter na tinatawag. Tooter po na tinatawag, Inagawa ko po

tapis pinipilit ko pong tikman, pero ayaw patikim sa akin ng mga kasama ko kasi nga po

nakakasama daw po kasi bata pa daw po ako. Edi tinikman ko po mga apat na hits lang

po grabe na po ang epekto. Tatlong araw ka hindi patutulugin. – Robinhood

Peer Pressure: Their friends are doing it or pressuring them to do the same

ako ng landas kasi dahil sa mga tropa poNaisip ko rin po itigil ang mga illegal na

gawain ko po .. natigil ko po yan kaso dahil sa udyok udyok ng tropa di ko po mapigilan”

Acceptance: Their parents or role models are doing it and they want to feel accepted

by those they look up to.

po wala na rin po akong magawa nun kase panget naman po na aalis ako dun na na

Independence: they want to make their own descisions and assert their own

independence.

pong ano, kung gugustuhin mo, magtitino ka talaga. Eh nasasayo naman po kung di ka

Pleasure: They want to feel good. This kids are dealing with a heavy mix of emotions,

and drugs can help numb the pain and make them feel better even when times are

tough.

Lack of formal education

3 out of 5 participants had attained high school levels of education while rest of

them were elementary level.

4 out 5 CICLs said that they didn’t do well in school. Two of them got kicked out,

they were Einstein and Robinhood. One of them reported that he’s a bully while the

other one got bullied. Two of them mentioned that they were cutting class while the

other 2 said that they were often involved in troubles. Pau admitted that he’s bad at

math while Pobre described his routine as “school bukol”. 2 of them said that they were

sleeping during class hours. It is implied that every participants reported they were

having problems at school. Robinhood and the boy blame themselves as cause of the

problems.

Disruptive behavior such as bullying and aggression.

“Noong nag aaral po ako kasi, kung tutuusin po wala po akong nagawang ano eh tama

po sa eskwelahan po. Puro po riot, mga trouble po, paninikil, pambubully.”

Ako lang din po ang gumagawa ng dahilan kaya ako nagkakaproblema.”

Loss of interest in studying

Media violence

Children were also exposed to “glamorized” violence on television and movies.

One participant really likes those action stars who usually commit violent acts for

revenge.

“mga action star lang po gyung mga gusto kong ano eh yun lang. halos ano yun eh

halos di na po ako kumakain talaga i-aalmusal ko nalang po icocomputer ko pa.””-

Pau stated that he really enjoys watching those jail-related videos where he can,

according to him, learned some acts or techniques that he can use when facing his

opponent.
“sa telebisyon po … marami pong karanasan sa mga panunuod po.. hilig ko rin pong

manuod ng mga adventure na saka sa mga kulungan po na nangyayari yung tipong

makakauha po ako nang ano.. nang pangyayari na di ko dapat gawin ,

mapapasama po ako.” – (Pau)

Simulated games such as DOTA and Specai forces allow this children to play the

role of the character they wanted to be. While most of the children who play computer

games were just playing for fun. Robinhood and Einstein were doing it with “ Pustahan”

or with bride they even skip their classes spend most of their time in front of the

computers. One of them, named the boy even watch sexual videos.

P2: DOTA po.Dun din po yung pagkasira ng pag aaral ko kasi sa tuwing hindi po ako

papasok, diretso po ako sa computeran. Dun po kami nag cucutting classes. Habang

may school po, naglalaro po kami ng DOTA po, pustahan po.” – (Robinhood)

P4: Nagcocompter rin po ako parang adik rin po ako sa computer e, parang gabe

gabe nasa computer ako. Naglalaro po ng Dota, twitter, facebook,trasfire,SF (Special

Force) ano lang po sa mga tropa ko po mahilig manood ng sexual na palabas. Sa

Experience of being in conflict with the law

All of the children were involved in some form of theft like stealing, snatching, hold-up,

shoplifting and akyat bahay/Bakodeven before they were placed in MOLAVE . 3 of this
children namely Pobre, Pau and the boy were taken in police custody because of drug-

related case. Einstein and Robinhood was charge with theft. Most of the children

reasoned that they stole to have money to buy drugs/illegal substance and food.

Pobre was charged with Juvenile Drug Possession. He started doing unlawful act

at the age of 14. When asked the if what’s reason for the doing so he answered.

“inaalok ako ng mga barkada ko sa una ayaw ko po pero nung tumagal-tagal

sinubukan ko po kasi nung naisip- isip ko po na ano eh pag gumagamit ka neto

parang angas ganun … hindi pala.”- Pobre

Material deficiency was another reason why Pobre was stealing.

“ayun po sakin lang po di ko po parang di po ako nagbibigay sa magulang ko kasi

pagkain ko lang pansarili ko lang po pagkain computer tas naisipan ko po bumili ng

gamit cellphone nga po”. – Pobre

Robinhood started his illegal acts at the age of 14 and allegedly charged with

Theft. When asked if what’s his reason in committing the illegal offense, he replied:

“grabe po kasi ginawa ko sa magulang ko, dulot po ng barkada, pinapakuha ko po yung

gamit namin, yung laptop ganun. Kung saan saan lang po. Nakitira lang po ako sa

barkada ko, saan saan po ako natutulog kasi po ayun nga po pagrerebelde ko sa

step mother ko po. Sabay ayun po, natuto po-- natuto po akong magnakaw kasi

wala po akong makain noong araw na yun.” –( Robinhood)

Robinhood defiant behavior was uncontrollable back then that his parents were

convinced to surrender their own son to the police.

“Kung ano ano lang po ang nilalabas kong gamit tas binebenta ko po hanggang

sa gusto na akong ipakulong ng mga magulang ko.”

When asked where did he brought the money, he replied:

“Ang ginagawa ko po sa pera na nakukuha ko po bumibili po ako ng gamit na gusto

ko pong suotin, tska binibili ko po pagkain ko kasi po ako lang po bumubuhay sa

sarili ko”- (Robinhood).

He implied that he used the money to buy clothes since his parents couldn’t afford to

buy him one.

At the age of 14, Einstein robbed numbers of malls and department stores

around Quezon City. When asked about the reason of his stay in MOLAVE, without

hesitant, He immediately confessed his crime “Nagshoplift po. Sa SM. Shoplifter po

ako eh.” He admitted that he had done this kind of unlawful act quite a few times.

“Isang beses pa lang po ako nahuli eh pero madami din po akong nagagawa” –

(Einstein)

When asked what’s his reason in committing the illegal offense, he replied

“nagnanakaw na lang po ako may pang kain ako sa sarili ko pero nagbabahagi din po

ako sa kanila pero galing nga lang po sa masama” – (Einstein)

He claims that he’s not working alone, they planned their act before they start.

“Yung kasama din po naming taga plano, May Tagapiyansa may amo din po kasi ako

eh.”- (Einstein)
He did not expect that he will be caught, at first he thought that the police men will let

him go because he was a minor but things don’t go the way he planned.

“Napaisip po ako tsaka nasaktan din kasi po nakuha ko na… akala ko ok na

..hindi po ako nabigyan ng pagkakataon..tinuluyan pa din dahil nga po kasi sa mga

ginagawa ko.. nagpapahabol po ako.” – (Einstein)

The Boy was charged with Juvenile illegal possession of drugs. At the age of 12

he started his involvement with the cycle of selling and using illegal drugs. Besides

drugs he was also involve with theft. “holdap po Ahhm Snatch tapos pasok bahay” he

confessed.

“Sa bisyo naman po yun sa Marijuina po. Minsan po ginagamit ko rin po, minsan ano po

binibenta ko rin po minsan po binibigay ko na lang po…Minsan po 500..Kapag

binibenta ko po kasi po parang naging pusher din po ako…” - (The boy)

At the age of 8, Paupau was part of gangs and fraternity in their barangay, he

was taken under the custody of the police at the age of 14, he was involved in number

of delinquent acts in the streets. When asked what his reason in doing this illegal act he

answered….

“kase nung bago po ako gumawa ng ganyan po , nagtitinda po yung lola ko sa

palengke noong nakaramdam po ako na parang di na kaya ng lola , gumaya na po

ako sa mga nakikita ko po sa lugar hanggang uminit po ako sa mga pulis” –

(Paupau)
Paupau was happy because he was able to earn money without getting all worked out

and tired in short, Easy Money.

“kase po gingawa ko yun parang masaya ako kase may pera ako.. tapos nakakabili

ako ng gusto kong bilhin , pakiramdam ko po nun parang ano po ako.. parang hindi

na po ako mahihirapan” –( Paupau)

Experienced of Police brutality

The CICL all recall their own experience with the police officers and barangay

officers. 2 out 5 CICL experienced Police brutality while the other 2 were unharmed and

the other one, voluntarily surrendered himself.

Pobre and Einstein were both unharmed by the Police officers. They were just asked

repeatedly by the officers, which makes them a bit uneasy and annoyed and they were

lectured few times by the Social worker, allowing them to reflect on whatever they did

and fortunately Pobre did understand what he did wrong.

“yung pag trato po nila sakin maayos naman po na… di naman po nila ako

sinasaktan, di po nila ako parang inaapi po, di po nila ako minamaliit. Tinatanong

lang po nila kung saan ako kumukuha, yung pinagbigyan ko daw po. Paulit-ulit po na

tanong, kahit po nakakasawa. Naguguluhan na nga po ako kasi paulit-ulit na nga po

kasi parang nakakarindi eh, parang mas lalo ko pong naisip na parang dun ko lang po

naisip na dun lang po pumasok sa isip ko na ganun nga po masama bawal. Mga sinabi

nila di ko pinakinggan, mga sinabi nila parang pinakinggan ko pumasok sa isang

tenga tapos lumabas sa kabila. Parang nag tengang kawali ako parang wala lang.
parang lumabas parang wala akong sariling mundo, di ko inisip yung kapakanan

ng iba. – ( Pobre)

Einstein was warned by the police but its too late he was already been caught.

P3: Pabalik-balik kami eh hinawakan lang po ako sa ano sa hindi naman po ako

sinaktan hinawakan lang po sa ganto sa damit. "Pabalik-balik kang bata ka makulit ka"

ginaganun po ako "Sa susunod pag shoplift mo wag ka na dito ah" parang galit na din

po sila kasi nga po nagpapahabol po ako sa kanila tapos natiyambahanpo ako

hanggang sa dinala na lang po ako sa office. – ( Einstein )

When Robinhood was caught by the police, he was placed in a city jail, together with

adult prisoners for 6 months. Although the police officers were aware that he was a

juvenile they still confined him in a cell and was treated the same like the others.

P2: City Jail po. Ayun po yung first time kong nahuli po. Dun po ako dinala. 6 months

po ako sa city jail sabay binaba po ako dito. February 1 po ako nilagay dito. Noong

nahuli po kasi ako noon first time ko po yon kasi, hindi ko po alam gagawin ko, takot

na takot po ako noong araw na yon. (Nakaganun po ako nun) (Demo) Tapos...

pinosas po nila ako hindi ko po alam gagawin ko. Tapos takot na takot pi ako kasi alam

kong hindi na po ako pupuntahan ng magulang ko eh. Kasi alam ko waka na akong

ano eh. Wala na akong malalapitan noon eh. Walang pupunta sa akin sa kulungan

saba'y pag ano po kami nun. Kasi po yung likod lang po nun ilong po, nagsubok po

kaming gumanon. Pagtakbo po namin hinabol po kami ng Armylight sa dulo, tumaob po

kami sabay umikot po ako hindi po ako nakatakas. Yon pagdating ko po don, binugbog

kami ng mga pulis. – (Robinhood)

The Boy robbed his neighbor that cause a major scene in their barangay. Sooner, the

news spread out quickly and he was really scared that he might be caught in much

bigger trouble if other people find out that it was him, so before they do suspect him, he

surrender himself peacefully.

P4: “Sumuko po akosa barangay po ..Kasi ano po ko, natatakot na rin po ako

nun..Kasi naawa na rin ako sa may-ari ng pera na yun kasi po may paggagamitan po

sya nun, may kailangan po sya sa pera na yun..hindi po, di nila alam kumalat po samen

may nawawalang pera kasi may paggagamitan e dahil ninakaw ko e parang biglang

naglaho sa kanila” – The boy

The boy also implied that he did really wanted to give himself to the authority because

he wanted to change and start again.

“ayaw naman talaga ako ipakulong eh parang gusto ko rin po kasi gusto ko rin po

magbagong buhay e para iyong mga ginagawa ko maiwasan ko na rin po” – The

boy

Paupau was violently abused by the police officer that arrested him and 2 of his

friends. He stated that he was “kinuryente” (electrocuted) using a taser gun, after that,

Paupau did think of fighting back by stabbing them with a barbecue stick but his friends

stop him.

“kase nung hinuli po ako tatlo po yun, habang nakasakay po kami sa mobil nila .. yung

ano po nila gamit po nila na may kuryente.. nagisip po ako na … ibabalik ko sa

kanila kung paano paanong gagawin ko sa mga taong kase noong naubos po namin

yung pagkain nayun sinabihan ko po yung tropa ko na kung papayag sila sa gagawin
ko.. kase po nasa harap po sila eh yung mga nakahuli samin, syempre po nakatalikod

po sila sinabihan ko po yung tropa ko na saksakin ko po yung mga ano… tapos sabi

ng tropa ko wag mo nang gawin yan tol dun na lang sa ano pagka nalaman din naman

na wala tayong kinalaman ditto saka dun na lang nating balingan– (Pau)

Paupau then voice out what he realize after that incident. He said:

sakin kase kahit na may kasalanan, syempre po kahit kahit may kasalanan yung

tao .. kung ganun po yung gagawin nila mas lalong magrerebelde po yung pag

nakalabas.

Rehabilitation Experience

All of the children have stayed for almost 1 year at the center (MOLAVE).

Pending cases was the common reason for their stay. The cases sometimes dragged

on because of the failure of the complainant to show up, or the unavailability of the

judge, or simply biding time hoping for the complainant to forgive the child.

When asked about their personal experience upon their rehabilitation, Pobre did

mention how the policy works inside the rehabilitation centre and describe this as very

strict and precise, he stated “ Ultimo maling galaw mo isusulat, ila-logbook.

Irereport tapos hanggang na.. hanggang makarating na po dun sa disciplinary

room – (Pobre)

Pobre was thankful for the learnings that he received from the Social workers in

MOLAVE. According to him he had learned lot of things that he hadn’t and never will

learn outside.
“madami po akong natutunan dito kasi.. nakikisama ako sa mga bawat activity dito..

marami po ako natutunan yung mga hindi ko natutunan sa labas.. natutunan ko po dito.

Halimbawa nalang sa mga TC po.Therapeutic Community po, yung mga hindi ko po

natutunan doon sa labas, dito ko lang po natutunan kaya laki pong pasasalamat

ko napunta ako dito”. - Pobre

“Eto po parang center lang po. Lahat po kami nakagawa po ng hindi mabuti kaya

sama-sama po kami, pero po masaya naman po kami dito, Dito kasi, hindi kami

tinuturing na preso, tinuturin po kaming magkakapatid kaya po hindi panget etong

center.” - Pobre

Pobre gained a Better family inside the center.

Einstein on the other hand, improved his interpersonal skills during his stay in the

institution as well as gained friends similar to his case.

tapos nagkaroon ako ng barkada dito shoplifter din po ang kaso - (Einstein)

The boy perceived that juveniles learned to discipline themselves and observed

that they are no longer allowed to do the illegal activities they used to do outside such

as trouble-making and crimes. Most importantly, he observed that they changed a lot

because they learned to apply the lessons they learned from MOLAVE.

P4:marami pong tinuturo ditong tama kailangan mo po dito ng disiplinado sa sarili

bawal iyong makulet bawal kasi lahat po magkakakulit, bawal po makipag-away basta

lahat po ng bulinyaso sa labas bawal po dito… kung bago dito sinasanay ka na ano di

ka gagawa ng kalokohan, di ka gagawa ng krimen. Tsaka iyong ibang lumalaya

po nagbabago po sila di na sila gumagawa ng krimen kasi naiaapply na nila sa

sarili ang natutunan nila dito kaya di na sila bumabalik sa dating gawain nila.

Ganun din po iyong saken gusto ko pong maraming matutunan dito para kapag

nakalaya ako dito kaya ko na iahon ang sarili ko kahit wala nang gumagabay

saakin… kaya ko ng tumayo sa dalawang paa ko tsaka kaya ko na rin

magtrabahong mag-isa .. iyon lang po ang ano ko e kapag nakalabas ako dito…

Pau expressed sadness when talking about his experience being in the institution. He

uses the the word “Pagdurusa” to expressed his feelings.

(Pobre): siguro ano kung ano yung hinaharap ko kung

anong dapat kong gawin, gagawin ko na po. Tulad ng

pag-aaral, sa magulang na po maging... Maging ano

pakinggan yung sinasabi ng magulang ko na dapat

para sakin tsaka yung pagtatapos ko ng pag-aaral

 kasi di naman yun para sakin.Para... Para rin sa

magiging pamilya ko. Para rin sa pamilya ko na ano,

gusto kong tulungan. Tsaka ano... Ayoko ko po na

maging.. Maging mahirap yung buhay ko pagdating

ng araw kasi mahirap na nga po yung buhay mahirap

3 out of 5 CICLs were longing for harmonious family life. Most of their families were

suffering from poverty so they were so motivated to help them. 2 of them believed that if

they study and finish school, they will be able to make it easier for them to escape

poverty.
