The first seven miles of London Road (from Latham Road to the southern end of Cottage Grove
Reservoir Road) has been designated a Safety Corridor because multiple people have been killed or
seriously injured in traffic crashes. This means fines for traffic violations will be doubled – to encourage
people to drive at safe speeds and save lives. The fines-double will be in effect from July 4, 2021 through
July 5, 2023.
The following information is intended to be used for education only about the LRSC. This information is
NOT legal advice and should not be relied upon in any legal action. Each individual case is different, and
those differences will determine how the law is applied to any specific case or situation.
Currently, there are no posted speed signs on the first seven miles of London Road designated as a
Safety Corridor. The maximum speed is 55 mph, but slower speeds may apply based on roadway
conditions. This is a state law known as Basic Rule. Violating the Basic Rule speed could include driving at
a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent, having due regard to all of the following: traffic; surface
and width of the road; a hazard at an intersection; weather; and visibility.
What fines are subject to doubling on the London Road Safety Corridor?
