CE 212: STRUCTURAL MECHANICS AND MATERIALS SESSIONAL LABORATORY REPORT Experiment No: SM-02 Experiment Name: Slender Column Test for Different End Conditions Group: ......92. Session: 2219212... Department: ..... vil. Ey, ginsering.. For Instructor Only ‘Name of Instructor: ‘Signature: Marks: Organization Results Analysis Discussion (02) (03) (02) (03) DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING MILITARY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY 2020 Experiment Title: Slender Column Test for Different End Conditions Standard: ASTM C109/C150 3.1 Objective of the Experiment i. To determine Euler load /critical load /ouckling load of slender columns through experiment. ii, To determine Euler crippling load /critical load /buckling load of slender columns theoretically from Euler formula for slender columns. iii, To compare the experimental critical load and theoretical critical load. iv. To draw column strength curves (both experimental plot & theoretical plot). 3.2 Significance This experiment provides fundamental knowledge on slender column and its behavior, test procedure, testing machine, Euler’s critical load for pined and fixed ended columns ete, 3.3 Apparatus 3.3.1. Digital slide calipers, 3.3.2 Column testing apparatus, 3.3.3 Steel scale, 3.3.4 Weights 3.4 Specimen 3.4.1 High tensile steel column of different lengths 3.5 Brief Procedure 3.5.1 At first, measure the geometric dimensions of the column, 3.5.2. Then place the column in the testing apparatus between the end supports. 3.5.3 Apply the compressive load axially. 3.5.4 Record the critical buckling load from the display. 3.5.5 Perform the test for all support conditions. 3.6 Data Sheet Both End H Lad | 30 | eo | 90 20 |tso |rvelaio ~ | Detteetion (am 0039 o-x9 ors |b 8?
