COURSE TOPICS OUTLINE


This course will focus on developing your understanding, skills, and responsibility as a
modern media and information literate individual. You will also be taught the fundamentals of
computer science as a needed skill in the modern world.

Unit 2: The Systematics of Media and Information: Knowing how to identify and classify
information will help in deciding the proper response to a situation.

A. Types of Media

A1. Types of Media According to their Means of Transfer

This includes print, broadcast, outdoor, and digital media.

A2. Types of Media According to their Source and Audience

This includes traditional, institutional, and mass media.

B. Media and Information Languages

B1. Types of Languages in Media

This includes visual, aural, written, verbal, and non-verbal languages.

B2. Codes and Conventions

This tackles what codes and conventions are in media and how they affect information.
The codes and conventions of film, images, and public speaking will also be tackled.

C. Media and Information Sources

C1. Indigenous, Library, Internet, Social media

D. Legal, Ethical, and Societal Issues of Media

D1. Copyright, Fair-use, Plagiarism, Netiquette, Digital divide, Addiction, and Bullying
