10 Ways to Get Paid

as a College Student

Organic Chemistry Tutor

1. Become a tutor – Are there any subjects in school that you’re good at? If so, you could tutor other
students who need help in those subjects. The pay for tutoring can typically range anywhere from $10/hour
to $200/hour, depending on your location and how you position your services. I’ve heard of a certain SAT
tutor who charged $500/hour for his services.

Here are some courses that students need help with:

Reading, Writing, Grammar, English, French, Spanish, World History, Psychology, Sociology, Microeconomics,
Finance, Excel, Microsoft Word, Computer Science, HTML, Java, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Biochemistry,
Organic Chemistry, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Statistics, SAT, ACT, Music
Lessons, Piano, Chess, and more.

Check out sites such as tutor.com, wyzant.com, universitytutor.com, and varsitytutors.com. You can tutor
students online with tutor.com or in-person using wyzant.com. Wyzant allows you to set your own rate,
which is great. Check with your local college or university to see if they hire any tutors. Sometimes, they may
have an online directory of tutors whom students can contact for assistance.

2. Sell your services on Fiverr & Upwork – Are you good at editing essays, proofreading articles, logo
design, video editing, copywriting, website design, writing resumes and cover letters, transcribing audio files,
t-shirt design, content writing, graphic design, virtual assisting, or bookkeeping? If so, you can get paid selling
your services working anywhere in the country. All you need is a laptop and a good internet connection. You
have control over your schedule, and you can set your own prices.

3. Write articles on Medium.com – This site has increased in popularity over the last 3 years. Almost
anyone can sign up and write articles on this platform. You get paid based on the number of medium
subscribers that read your articles and if any non-subscribers join medium after reading your article. Earnings
vary depending on the success and popularity of the content. Some YouTubers have earned $10 or $20 per
article, while others have reported earning upwards of $6,000 for one article.

4. Make videos on YouTube – You can generate passive income by making videos on YouTube. As long
as people continue to watch your videos, you will receive ad revenue each time a viewer watches an ad. You
can make videos on a wide variety of topics. You can do product reviews, create how-to tutorials, gaming
videos, travel videos, vlogging, Uber-driver videos, cooking tutorials, article reviews, funny animal videos,
educational videos, and so much more. Earnings vary based on the topic and the geographic location of the
viewer.

5. Get paid driving your vehicle – You can earn cash by driving people to their destination using apps
such as Uber or Lyft. Some Youtubers have reported making anywhere from $100 to $300 per day using these
apps.
6. Delivery services – While you’re waiting for your next Uber/Lyft driving gig, you can also deliver food
using apps such as UberEATS, Doordash, Grubhub, and Instacart.

You can also deliver packages with Amazon Flex which pays about $18 to $25/hr. You can choose your own
schedule; however, the program is currently not available in every city. Roadie is another service that pays
you not only for local deliveries but also for long-distance hauls.

7. Apply for gigs on TaskRabbit and Upshift

Using TaskRabbit, you can assist people with running errands, delivery, shopping, furniture assembly, writing
& editing, yard work, cleaning, and helping people move to a new home. On Upshift, you can pick up extra
shifts at hotels, restaurants, warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and offices whenever there’s a demand for
additional workers.

8. Apply for a work-study program: Your college or university may offer a federally funded work-study
program where you can get paid while completing your degree program. This is a need-based program, and
not every student will be eligible to benefit from it.

9. Become a tour guide – If you have good social skills and love sharing adventures with others, check out
Airbnb experiences. You can become a tour guide in your local town. You can also share experiences such as
biking, kayaking, taking pictures, paddleboard, horseback riding, yacht tours, jet skis, art tours, and food tours,
to name a few.

10. Sell stuff for other people – Have you ever considered selling stuff for other people and splitting the
profit 50/50? Some people have stuff that they no longer use, and they may be so busy with life that they
don’t have the time to create an online listing to sell their products. Rather than throwing away such items or
donating them for free – they may be inclined to give the items to you in bulk so you can sell it for them. As a
business, this can give you an endless supply of items to sell. If you do a good job, your customers will refer
you to other customers who will provide more products to sell.

You can sell these items on eBay, Amazon, or Facebook Marketplace. Some eBay sellers who sell stuff for
other people have chosen to focus on selling only high price luxury brand items. This makes sense. You don’t
want to waste time creating listings for items that do not sell or items that sell for a very low price. The lesson
here is to value your time. If you get more work than you can handle, you can always hire a team of other
college students to help you.
