VZ-30 Circuit Description
1.Chip Description
VZ-30 circuit utilizes RDA1846 (RF part) and SCT3252F (baseband) double-chip solution.
This model utilizes RDA1846 chip, which is a highly integrated chip with powerful features, The chip integrates VCO,
PLL, LNA, MIX, LDO, voice processing functions and so on. VZ-30-G6-4 only applies RDA1846 signal modulation and
demodulation part and RF front-end transmitter and receiver functions. As a transmitter, the baseband signal is modulated
onto the RF carrier, which is sent to the RF amplifier circuit and sent out; as the receiver, received from the radio frequency
carrier of the baseband signal is demodulated, then its output to the baseband processing circuit.
This model utilizes SCT3252X chip in the baseband section, which is a low power, high performance DSP chip. It has
all kinds of baseband signal processing power combination with CODEC chip WM8758B. Radio transmitter, audio signal
from MIC passes through pre-emphasis, filter, limiter, source coding, 4FSK modulation processing, etc, the processed
baseband signal is modulated in the RDA1846; Radio receiver, the demodulated baseband signal from RDA1846 passes
through de-emphasis, filter,4FSK demodulation, information source decode processing, etc. The resulting audio signal is
sent to the audio amplifier, the amplification of audio signal drives speaker output sound.
RDA1846 and SCT3252X through micro-processing (STM8S207RBT6) control radio working.

2.Receiver
1) Front-end RF amplifier
The signal input from the antenna passes through the antenna low-pass, and transmit-receive circuit , and LC band-pass
filter to eliminate unwanted signals, it’s amplified in the RF amplifier LNA(Q501), the amplification of the RF signal is
sent to RDA1846 (U601).

2) RF signal demodulation
RDA1846 (U601) receiving a frequency range is from 400MHz to 470MHz. The amplification of signal from the RF
amplifier (Q501) passes through the chip processing, the demodulation of baseband signals are output to the baseband
processing section of the front end CODEC chip WM8758B (U201). The baseband signal is convert digital signal by the
ADC in the CODEC chip WM8758B, and it’s sent SCT3252X (U202) processing.

3) Baseband signal processing

In the SCT3252X (U202), the digital baseband signal passes through a high-pass filter, Low-pass filter, De-emphasis,
4FSK demodulation processing, etc, getting a final digital audio signal, Then the digital audio signal converted into an
analog audio signal by CODEC chip WM8758B (U201), Analog audio signal is sent to the audio amplifier for signal
amplification after passing through the volume switch S701. The amplification of the audio signal drives the speaker to
producing sound.

4) Receive Signaling (CTCSS/DCS)

In the SCT3252X (U202), Signaling in the baseband signal (CTCSS / DCS) is separated out passing through the digital
low-pass filter, Then detects whether the preset signaling CTCSS / DCS frequency matching, tested after the match, MCU
(U101) only control audio amplifier TDA2822 (U203) output sound.

5) Noise suppression circuit

VZ-30 Service Manual 5

RF signals enter RDA1846 (U601) through the filter and low noise amplification, RDA1846 (U601) according to the
internal strength and the RSSI of the noise to the signal with a preset reference signal is compared to the condition judgment
valid when the conditions set by default, it is determined receive valid, RDA1846 (U601) of SQ high level output to MCU
(U101); when not meet the preset reference conditions, the received invalid, RDA1846 (U601) of the SQ output low to
MCU (U101). MCU (U101) passes through detecting high and low level from RDA1846(U601)to determine whether the
speaker output voice.

6) Voice reported frequency

MCU (U101) controls the voice chip LT03M (U103) for voice reporting frequency, the audio signal output from
LT03M (U103) drives the speaker after passing through the audio power amplifier to producing frequency voice.

3.Transmitter
1) Transmit Audio
The audio signal from the microphone a simple RC filter, the audio signal enters into the CODEC chip WM8758B
(U201) to the ADC conversion, Then the resulting digital audio signal passes through SCT3252F (U202) for amplification,
pre-emphasis, encryption, scrambling, limiter, 4FSK modulation processing, etc. After processing of the digital baseband
signal is converted to an analog signal after passing through the CODEC chip WM8758B (U201) to the DAC conversion,
the analog signal is modulated onto the RF carrier after sending to the RDA1846 (U601).

2) CTCSS/DCS
CTCSS / DCS encoder required signals generating by the RDA1846 (U601) internally and CTCSS / DCS signals
modulated onto the RF carrier signal generating by internal PLL.

3)RF Amplifier
The modulated RF carrier signal outputs from RDA1846 (U601) pin, it’s passes through the buffer amplifier (Q401)
and the RF amplifier (Q402, Q403) , the modulated carrier signal power amplification to more than 4W.

4)Antenna Switch and LPF

The RF signal passes through a low-pass filter network and a transmit/receive switch circuit before it reaches the
antenna terminal. D401 is turned on (conduction) in transmit mode and off (isolated) in receive mode. After through
switching D401, send to the LPF to filter multiple harmonic signals.

5)APC
The automatic power control (APC) circuit stabilizes the transmit power by detecting the drain current of final stage
amplifier FET. U401compares the preset reference voltage with the voltage obtained from final current. APC voltage is
proportional to the difference between auto detect voltage and reference voltage output from U401, Output voltage controls
FET amplifier, keeping the transmit output power constant. Transmitted output power can be controlled by changing the
reference level in the microprocessor.

6)Temperature protection circuit

When the thermistor (RT401) temperature reaches 80 ° C, the protection circuit protects final amplifier to avoid

VZ-30 Service Manual 6

overheating by opening Q406, to reduce the input voltage of the APC circuit, the reduction the output power of the small
amplifer to protect final amplifier to avoid overheating.

4. Power supply
The battery voltage changes into 3.6V by DC-DC, and then changes into 3.3V (A3V3) by LDO (U703) to RF and
baseband analog power supply; changes into 3.3V (A3V3) by LDO (U705) to control and baseband digital circuitry power
supply; changes into 1.2V (D1V2) by LDO (U704) to SCT3252X (U202) core power supply.

VOX
When the state is set to work in the VOX, MIC received voice signal amplified by the amplifier Q207, sends to the
half-wave rectified (D205) to output DC voltage, sends to the MCU (U601) detecting whether the open transmit conditions,
if they meet the condition MCU (U601) will start emission control transmitter circuit.

5. Control System
The control circuit is constituted by a microprocessor STM8S207 RBT6 (U101) and the external circuit. It controls the
TX-RX unit. The main function of U101 as follows:
(1)Detection of external buttons, and controlling corresponding the work circuit.
(2)Readout system, group, frequency, and programming data from the memory circuit.
(3)Transmit frequency data to RDA1846.
(4)Control squelch on and off according to the DC voltage output of squelch circuit.
(5)Control the audio is muted according to decode the data.
