PATIENT INFORMATION

AGE: 29 YEARS OLD
PRESENT COMPLAINT: SHE COMPLAINS OF HAVING CONTRACTIONS AND AN
UNCOMFORTABLE FEELING

SIGNS OF LABOR:
-restless
-dry mouth
-patient’s PR: 101 bpm
- 80% effaced, 5cm dilated
-have frequent, strong palpation contractions lasting 40 seconds

LABOR PROGRESS:
-Passage: the patient has a gynecoid pelvis
-Passenger: the fetus is in cephalic presentation, with a fetal lie of longitudinal, and full
flexion
-Powers of labor: she is having frequent, strong palpation contractions lasting 40 seconds,
she is 80% effaced, 5cm dilated
-placenta: has grade 3 placenta that weighs 400 - 600g (1lb)
-psyche: she is trembling and complaining of nausea and uncontrollable urge to push

FREQUENCY OF CONTRACTIONS:
-regular contractions between 4-5 minutes that last 40 seconds

DIAGNOSTIC TOOL TO IDENTIFY THESE SIGNS:


- Internal examination to verify the true signs of labor and to confirm if the bag of water
has ruptured
- Electronic Fetal Machine (EFM) to determine the contractions, fetal heart tone, and
fetal movements
- Leopold’s maneuver to determine the fetal presentation and position
