One Night Stand

“Women, luv’em and leav’em, that’s what I say.” Tilting back in his chair

finishing his Long Island Iced Tea he covers his mouth and belches softly. “I mean

seriously, what’s the point of getting into a relationship? When you get right down to it,

all a relationship is, is letting a girl get to know you long enough to fuck you. You then

keep fuckin’em til they’re about to leave you. You just have to make sure to leave’m

first.” Chuckling I just nod my head in agreement.

He’s right. His theory is a little crude, but that could just be the liquor more than

anything else.

“You forgot the last part of that,” I say. Pausing as I see a short little blonde

across the dance floor looking my way.

“Oh, what’s that?” Marcus asks, alternately sucking and chewing on the Ice to his

now finished drink.

“You forgot to have sex that one last time, for old times sake! Still chuckling I

grab my beer and walk across the bar to the dance floor. Laughing, Marcus loses his

balance and falls over backwards, not noticing me leave the table.

Keeping the lady in sight I make my way around the various tables and people

standing around in the club. The Coast is pretty full tonight. It’s a small club/bar on

Gratiot in Shields that used to be called the Watering Trough. The Trough had a 30 man

brawl in the parking lot a few years back causing the club to lose most of its business.

The owner then had it remodeled advertising supposed new ownership and changing the

name over to “The Coast”. The funny thing is Troy still stands at the door checking I.D.’s
Jones2

and Silky is still D.J.ing. I mean sure, they changed a few things. There’s now girls

dancing on the bar, wide screen tv’s, and a stripper pole on the stage for the ladies.

Walking slowly through the throng of bodies on the floor, I see the blonde

dancing in a small group including her and two other ladies. She’s wearing blue hip

hugger jeans and a small tight Hollister shirt with a hole cut in it to show off her

cleavage. Nice. I walk up behind her whispering in her ear asking her to dance. Looking

over her left shoulder she gives me that half-smile women love so much and nods,

backing up into me. One of her girlfriends, a red-head, gives her the smile of approval as

she pulls the third girls arm and move to another part of the dance floor. I’m in.

After a few songs of dancing, I invite her back to an empty table in the corner by

the front door and sit across from her.

“What’s your name?” I ask, as the waitress comes over asking if we need

anything.

“Tracy, you?” Shaking her head no to the waitress.

“Mason”. I decline to the waitress as well sending her off to the next table. Me

and Tracy talk for a while. She tells me she’s a freshmen at SVSU majoring in secondary

education, having moved up here from Adrian. She manages to slip into the conversation

the fact that she’s single having recently broken up with her ex and she’s never been to

this club before. After a couple of songs we go back onto the dance floor. A song or two

later I tell her I’ll be back and go looking for Marcus.

I see Marcus sitting at the same table we had just left with Tracy’s red-headed

friend sitting on his lap. Smiling, I walk over.

“Mason, this is Erica.

Jones3

“Nice to meet you.” Nodding my head her way.

“So I saw you dancing with my girl Tracy. You better be nice to her!”

“Whoa, ease up. I’m not going to hurt her. She seems like cool people… So do

you think I have a chance with her?”

Marcus hides his smile behind his hand signaling for the waitress. He knows as

well as I do that this is a done deal. Tracy is a “college girl” now. Fresh out of high

school recently broken up with her boyfriend for whatever reason and is now only

looking to, “have a little fun.” He knows as well as I do that the fastest way into a girls

pants is to get in good with her friends. Sadly, we were able to share all of that with a

look and a smile.

“Yeah, you have a chance. She likes you. Be careful though, she just got out of a

pretty bad relationship so if you break her heart I’ll kill you.” She takes a drink of

Marcus’ Long Island keeping her eyes on me the whole time.

“Hey, I just met her, I’m not asking to marry her just get to know her. But I’ll be

nice. I promise.”

By the end of the night Marcus and I are pretty drunk and have invited the girls

back to Marcus’ place for drinks. The girls say they’ll agree as long as we have a cute

guy for their girl Rachel to meet. Like I said, done deal. I step outside to make the call.

“Hello?”

“Hey baby, It’s me. I was just calling to tell you I’m going to ride back to

Marcus’ cause I’m a little too drunk to drive home.”

“Mason, didn’t you just stay at his house last night? I mean, can’t you have him

drop you off here?”

Jones4

“I’m sorry honey, I asked him to but he’s drunk too, I’m just drunker. Besides, his

house is closer. I won’t be out long tonight, just long enough to sober up.”

“Okay, so I’ll come get you and bring you back to your car tomorrow.”

“That would be fine but didn’t you say you had to get up at 6am for that big

presentation in your business management class. Just get some sleep and I’ll be home

before you know it.”

She sighs in resignation.

“Fine, whatever. Just promise to call me when you’re on your way so I know

how long to worry whether you’ve been arrested for drunk driving or not.”

“I will. Love you.”

“Love you too” she says, “bye.”

“Night Angela.” I hang up. Waiting a few seconds for my cell phone to end the

call I quickly call James.

“Hello?” James voice answers sleepily.

“What up? I reply

“Just chillin here on the couch. What up with you?

“Hey, me and Marc are leavin the Coast with a trio of ladies and need a third man.

You interested?”

“You know this! But can you come scoop me, I don’t have any gas in my car?”

“Yeah, I got you. We’ll be there in about a half-hour.”

“Aight. See you when you get here. Holla.” He hangs up.

Closing my phone I walk back into the club.

Jones5

A half-hour or so later we pick James up and drive to Marcus’. Marcus has a two-

bedroom apartment on the West side of Saginaw. Walking in we make an immediate

right walking into the living room. Me and Tracy sit on the loveseat as James, Rachel and

Erica sit on the couch. Marcus walks into the kitchen and starts pouring some drinks.

Glancing around I notice the blender, plastic cups and pongs left over from last night and

chuckle softly.

“What’s so funny?” Tracy asks.

“Nothing. Just thinking about all the good times we’ve had hanging out here.”

Marcus comes in from the kitchen carrying drinks. Helping him pass the drinks out, I get

up and turn on the stereo. R. Kelly starts playing on the radio as I turn to Tracy…

“May I have this dance?” I ask.

“Sure.” Taking my hand and getting up we begin to dance. For the next few hours

we drink, talk and slow dance. Eventually Marcus and Erica go into his bedroom while

James and Rachel go into the spare room. All alone me and Tracy begin to kiss slowly

moving from the loveseat to the couch against the wall. Caressing each other softly and

savoring every kiss clothes begin to come off. We pause for a while with a laugh as we

hear the sounds of lovemaking coming from both bedrooms. Pulling the blanket from the

back of the couch over ourselves I unbuckle her belt and start to unbutton her pants.

“Wait.” She says as she grabs my hands.

“Are you ok?” I ask. Searching my eyes her hand cups my face and she leans in

kissing me.

“I don’t think I can do this. I want to but…well, I just met you. Are you mad?”

Now of course I’m mad. This is supposed to be a sure thing.

Jones6

“Nah, I’m not mad. It’s okay. There’ll be other times and I’m a patient person.

Besides, I have you here right now and that’s all that matters.” Looking me in my eyes

again she unbuttons her pants and moves my hand to her waist.

“Are you sure? I don’t want you to do something you’re not comfortable with.

Like I said, I’m patient. I can wait.”

“I’m sure.” She says.

Hearing a ringing sound near my head I wake up smiling as I feel Tracy’s head

on my chest looking around as I see our clothes scattered on the floor next to the couch.

Still hearing the ringing sound I realize it’s coming from the pile of clothes. Moving so I

don’t have to wake her I lift up my jeans and realize it’s my phone.

“Shit! Tracy wake up.” Shaking her softly I try again.

“Tracy, wake up.”

“Huh?” She says as she opens here eyes and looks at me.

“I’m sorry. My work called, it’s 1pm and I’m 3 hours late for work. I have to go.”

Getting up and getting dressed as quickly as possible I go and knock on Marcus’

bedroom door. Getting no answer I knock again opening the door as I do. Marcus is lying

in the bed one leg hanging off the side and his right arm behind his head under the pillow

snoring loudly. Rachel is lying on his left side head on his shoulder and his left arm

draped across her back. The blankets are covering them from the waist down. Pulling the

door closed a little and keeping my head behind it I call again a little louder.

“Marcus wake up!” The snoring stops abruptly.

“What?!” he asks.
Jones7

“Marc, it’s 1pm. I was supposed to be…at work 3 hours ago!” Emphasizing the

word work. “I have 8 missed calls. Where did you put my keys?”

“They’re in my pants pocket.” Walking into the room I quickly search through the

clothes on the floor finally finding my keys. Marcus pulls the covers up to cover the two

of them as he sits up.

“What’re you going to do about work?” he asks with a slight smile on his face.

“I don’t know, I’ll figure it out when I get there. I’ll see if Tracy can give me a

ride to my car but you’ll have to let her back in when she comes back.”

“Alright man, I hope you don’t get fired.” He says.

“Yeah, me too.” Closing the door as I leave the room I ask Tracy to give me a ride

to my car. She agrees and a half-hour later after we’ve showered together she drives me

to my car. Exchanging numbers, a quick kiss and a promise I’ll call her I get into my car

and drive home.

“Shit, shit, shit! Baby I overslept and didn’t hear my phone ringing.” Yeah, that’ll

work. You didn’t hear your phone ringing the 8 times I’ve called and the voice mail

alerts from the 4 messages?! No, I’ve already used that excuse. Come on man, think!

“My phone died.” That’ll only work if she doesn’t try to turn on my phone.

Turning onto Gratiot rd I look at my phone as it starts ringing again. I speed up and

immediately slam onto my breaks as I almost run a red light. Stopping at Meijers I pick

up a bouquet of roses and quickly get back into my car and on the way.

“Fuck! I’ve gotta stay calm.” Ok, we went to breakfast and then an early movie

but I couldn’t call you because I left my phone at Marcus’. Yeah, that’ll work. I haven’t

used that one before so she should believe me. You were only staying for an hour to
Jones8

sober up and you went to breakfast?! What happened to the other 9 ½ hours? Nah, that’s

definitely not going to work. Turning into our apartment complex I pull into our parking

spot and get out of the car. Hurrying to the building door I quickly open it and walk into

our apartment.

“ Baby, I know you’re mad. I’m so sorry for staying out so long again last night I

was hung over and stayed by the toilet for most of the morning.” Looking around and not

seeing Angela I head into the bedroom.

“Baby, did you hear me? I’m sorry I didn’t”…Opening the bedroom door I walk

in and see Angela naked on top of her ex. I feel the flowers fall to the floor. Closing the

door I walk back into the living room.
