Hollywood production workers
Hollywood production workers pushing for better wages and working conditions voted
almost unanimously to authorize a strike, Upon request, this scenario could hamper the
entertainment industry as companies compete to keep up with the surge in movies and TV
shows. The union has lobbied production companies to improve compensation and working
conditions on set to reflect the growing fortunes of the industry. Salaries for off-camera
staff have not kept pace with those of actors and writers, workers say.” This vote is about
the quality of life, as well as the health and safety of those who work in the film and
television industry. Our people have basic human needs like time for meal breaks, enough
sleep, and a weekend. For those at the bottom of the pay scale, they deserve nothing less
than a living wage, "said Loeb. Crew members say their contracts haven't caught up with
the new reality in Hollywood, where major streaming services are making billions of
dollars and spending a lot of money on high-end productions; however, some of the
workers earn just or slightly above the California minimum wage.
