Chapter 1
inspect (v) incelemek / to  examine  something carefully in order to find out more about it or to find out what
is  wrong  with it.
company (n) arkadaşlık / when you are with other people and not  alone.

Chapter 2
put a question to somebody (phr) soru yöneltmek / ask a question in a formal situation.
a state secret (n) devlet sırrı / He was accused of revealing state secrets.
faint voice (phr) hafif ses
murmur (v) mırıldanmak /to say something in a  soft  quiet  voice  that is  difficult  to  hear  clearly.
ring for (phr v) telefonla çağırmak / Sally rang for a taxi.
plain clothes (n) sivil kıyafet / plain-clothes  police  are police who  wear  ordinary  clothes  so that they can work
without being  recognized.
puzzled (adj) şaşkın / confused  and  unable  to understand something.
on business (phr) iş maksadıyla / She’s in New York this week  on business  (=for her work).
study (n) çalışma odası / a room in a house that is used for work or study, office.
frown (n) somurtmak, kaşlarını çatmak / to make an  angry,  unhappy, or  confused  expression, moving
your  eyebrows  together.
be bound to (v) zorunlu, kesin, muhakkak / to be very  likely  to do or feel a particular thing.
promote (v) terfi ettirmek / to give someone a  better  more  responsible  job in a company.
interfere (v) karışmak, müdahale etmek / to deliberately get  involved  in a  situation  where you are not wanted
or needed.

Chapter 3
accuse (v) suçlamak / to say that you believe someone is  guilty  of a  crime  or of doing something bad.

suspiciously (adv) şüpheyle /  in a way that shows you think someone has done something  wrong  or  dishonest

co-operate (v) iş birliği yapmak / to work with someone else to  achieve  something that you both want.

permission (v) izin / if you have permission to do something, you are officially  allowed  to do it.

identification (n) kimlik / (abbreviation  ID)  official papers or  cards, such as your  passport, that  prove  who you
are.
breake down (phr v) bozulmak / if a car or  machine  breaks down, it stops working.
interrupt (v) sözünü kesmek / to  stop  someone from  continuing  what they are saying or doing by
suddenly  speaking  to them, making a  noise  etc.
spy on (phr v) gözetlemek / to  watch  someone secretly to find out what they are doing.

object to (v) itiraz etmek / to feel or say that you  oppose  or  disapprove  of something.

official (n) görevli, yetkili / someone who is in a position of  authority  in an  organization.

curiously (adv) merakla / in a way that shows you want to know about something.
stupidity (n) aptallık / behaviour  or actions that show a  lack  of good sense or good  judgment.
nonsense (n) saçmalık / ideas,  opinions,  statements  etc. that are not  true  or that seem very  stupid.
interest (n) ilgi / if you have an interest in something or someone, you want to know or learn more about them.
possibility (n) ihtimal / if there is a possibility that something is true or that something will happen, it might be
true or it might happen.

using  electronic  equipment.
essential (adj) gerekli / extremely important and  necessary
field (n) saha / work or study that is done in the field is done in the real world rather than in a class
or  laboratory.
look after (phr v) bakmak, ilgilenmek / to take  care  of someone by helping them, giving them what they need.
amazed (adj) şaşırmış / very  surprised.
glance at sb (v) bakış atmak / to quickly look at someone or something.
horrified (adj) dehşete uğramış / feeling very  shocked  and  upset  or  afraid.
swear (v) küfür etmek / to use  rude  and  offensive  language.
for god’s sake (phr) tanrı aşkına / used to  emphasize  something you are saying when you are  annoyed.

Chapter 6
disappear (v) gözden kaybolmak / to become  impossible  to see any longer.
bloody (adv,adj) lanet olası / used to  emphasize  what you are saying, in a slightly  rude  way.
look forward to (phr v) dört gözle beklemek / to be  excited  and  pleased  about something that is going
to  happen
turn pale (phr) beti benzi atmak
departure (n) ayrılık /  an  act  of leaving a place, especially at the start of a  journey
still (adj) durgun, hareketsiz / not moving.
hesitate (v) tereddüt etmek / to  pause  before saying or doing something because you are  nervous  or not  sure
a means to an end (phr) vasıta, amaca götüren adım / something that you do only to  achieve  a  result, not
because you want to do it or because it is  important.
go after sb (phr) peşine düşmek / to follow or  chase  someone or something because you want to  catch  them
properly (adv) doğru düzgün / correctly, or in a way that is considered right.
tremble (v) titremek / to  shake  slightly in a way that you cannot control, especially because you
are  upset  or  frightened
fall apart (phr v) dağılmak / if an  organization, system,  relationship  etc. falls apart, it stops
being  effective  or  successful
hold on to sb (phr) birine tutunmak / to keep something rather than losing it or giving it to someone else.
expression (n) ifade / something you say, write, or do that shows what you think or feel.
examine (v) incelemek / to look at something carefully and thoroughly because you want to find out more
about it.

Chapter 7
Put into operation (phr) faaliyete geçirmek
Resign (v) istifa etmek / to officially  announce  that you have  decided  to leave your job or an  organization.
Resignation (n) istifa / a written  statement  that says you will be leaving you job.
Make up one’s mind (phr) karar vermek / to decide which of two or more  choices  you want, especially after
thinking for a long time.
Dissatisfied (adj) memnuniyetsiz / not  satisfied  because something is not as good as you had expected
Ordinary (adj) sıradan / average,  common, or  usual, not different or special.
Gradually (adv) git gide / slowly, over a long period of time.
Smoothly (adv) sorunsuzca / if a planned  event, piece of work etc goes smoothly, there are no problems
to  spoil  it.
Keep up to date (v) güncel tutmak / to give someone all the newest information about something.
Records (n) kayıtlar, dosyalar / information about something that is written down or stored on computer, film
etc. so that it can be looked at in the future.
Progress (n) ilerleme, aşama / the process of getting better at doing something, or getting closer
to  finishing  or  achieving  something.
Contents (n) içindekiler / the things that are  inside  a  bag,  box, room etc.
Instruction (n) talimat / a  statement  telling someone what they must do.
Treat (v) davranmak / to  behave  towards someone or something in a particular way.

Chapter 8
Sight (n) görüş / the  physical  ability  to see.
Efficient (adj) etkili, verimli / if someone or something is efficient, they work well without  wasting  time, money,
or  energy.
Nervous (adj) gergin / worried  or  frightened  about something, and  unable  to  relax.
Supposing (adv) diyelim ki, …desem / used when talking about a possible condition or situation, and
then  imagining  the result.
Fingerprints (n) parmak izi / a  mark  made by the  pattern  of lines at the end of a person’s  finger.
Insist (v) ısrar etmek / to  demand  that something should happen.
Bump into (phr v) toslamak, çarpmak / to  hit  or  knock  against something.
Admit (v) itiraf etmek / to  agree  unwillingly that something is  true  or that someone else is right.
Sensible (adj) mantıklı / reasonable,  practical, and showing good  judgment.
Chapter 9

people.
Manner (n) tavır / the way in which someone  behaves  towards or talks to other people.
Nod (v) başı ile onaylamak / to move your head up and down, in order to show  agreement or understanding.

Chapter 10

Casual work (n) geçici iş / employed as a  temporary  worker  or working for only a short period of time.
Arrange (v) ayarlamak / to  organize  or make  plans  for something such as a  meeting,  party, or  trip
Deceive (v) kandırmak / to make someone  believe  something that is not  true.
Convince = Persuade (v) ikna etmek / to make someone feel  certain  that something is  true.
Spoil (v) mahvetmek / to have a bad  effect  on something so that it is no
longer  attractive,  enjoyable,  useful  etc.
Kneel (v) diz çökmek / to be in or move into a  position  where your body is  resting  on your  knees.

Chapter 11
Deliberately (adv) bilerek, kasten / done in a way that is  intended  or planned.
Disobey (v) itaatsizlik etmek / to  refuse  to do what someone with  authority  tells you to do, or refuse
to  obey  a  rule  or  law.
Owe (v) borçlu olmak / to feel that you should do something for someone, because they have done something
for you or given something to you.
Bump into (phr v) karşılaşmak / to  meet  someone who you know, when you were not  expecting  to.
Get on well (phr v) iyi geçinmek / if people get on, they like each other and have a  friendly  relationship  with
each other.
Avoid (v) kaçınmak / to  prevent  something bad from happening.
Grateful (adj) minnettar olmak / feeling that you want to  thank  someone because of something kind that they
have done.
Chapter 12
Disguise (v) kılık değiştirmek / to change someone’s  appearance  so that people cannot  recognize  them.
Coincidence (n) tesadüf / when two things happen at the same time, in the same place, or to the same people in
a way that seems  surprising  or  unusual.
Complain (v) yakınmak, şikayet etmek / to say that you are  annoyed, not  satisfied, or  unhappy  about
something or someone.
Drop dead (v) düşüp ölmek, aniden ölmek
Annoy (v) rahatsız etmek / to make someone feel slightly  angry  and  unhappy  about something. 

Chapter 13
Thoroughly (adv) etraflıca, derinlemesine / completely.
Tear (v) yırtmak, Torn (adj) yırtık / to  damage  something such as  paper  or  cloth  by pulling it  hard or letting it
touch sth sharp.
Probable (adj) olası, muhtemel / likely  to  exist, happen, or be true.
Construct (v) inşaa etmek / to build something such as a house,  bridge, road etc.
Hesitate (v) tereddüt etmek / to  pause  before saying or doing something because you are  nervous  or not  sure
Mainland (n) ana kara / the  main  area of land that forms a country, rather than the  islands  near  to it that are
also part of it.
March (v) ilerlemek /  if  soldiers  or other people march somewhere, they walk there quickly
with  firm  regular  steps.

Chapter 14
Dependable (adj) güvenilir / able  to be  trusted  to do what you need or expect.
Come ashore (v) sahile çıkmak / move on or towards the  shore  of a  lake,  river,  sea  etc.
Evidence (n) kanıt / facts or  signs  that show clearly that something  exists  or is  true.
Unconscious (adj) şuursuz / unable  to see, move, feel etc in the  normal  way because you are not  conscious.
Bribe (v) rüşvet vermek / to illegally give someone, especially a public  official, money or a  gift  in order
to  persuade  them to do something for you.

Chapter 15
Infectious (adj) bulaşıcı / an infectious  illness  can be passed from one person to another.
At once (adv) hemen / immediately or without  delay.
Deathbed (n) ölüm döşeği / the  bed  on which someone  dies  or is dying.
Loyalty (n) sadakat, bağlılık / the quality of  remaining  faithful  to your friends,  principles, country etc.

Chapter 16
Basis (n) temel / the facts, ideas, or things from which something can be developed.
Sensible (adj) mantıklı / reasonable,  practical, and showing good  judgment.

Chapter 17
Determined (adj) kararlı / having a strong  desire  to do something, so that you will not  let  anyone stop you.
Relieved (adj) rahatlamış / feeling  happy  because you are no longer  worried  about something.
