When educating the minds of our youth, we must not forget to educate their hearts. – Dalai
Lama

What a person believes in says a lot about their character. That could go both in a positive

way or a negative way. Whatever you choose to believe in says a lot about you as a person. I

choose to believe that every person is unique and should be treated as such. This still holds true

with regards to teaching physical education. What may work for some students, may not work for

others. I believe you have to keep that in mind while teaching your students. As a physical

education teacher, (most) students are going to be excited and happy about P.E, and I want it to

keep it that way. There are no “off” days as a teacher. We have to always be on our toes and

show our enthusiasm to educators. I want my students to be able to come to me in confidence

and be able to tell me anything that is on their mind. I want my students to be physically

educated but I also want them to understand the affective skills that arise from not only physical

education but also in life. I want to be the teacher that every student loves to come and see and

every child can feel like it is a safe, fun place to be.

When it comes to assessing my students I want them to know that it does not affect their

grade, however, it does show me their starting point to where they progress to. Assessments are

great for knowing where you students are and how we help them from there. I would never use it

as a means for grading.

I want all my students to feel like they are included, that is one of the most important

subjects when it comes to teaching. This comes by knowing your students and what backgrounds
they come from. (For example, If I have a hispanic student, and it is “hispanic heritage month”

maybe just by recognizing that and asking the class if anyone wants to add to that.

One of my favorite assessment tools that I will use is daily journals. I want to know all

about my students inside and outside of class. I believe it is important to understand what they

like to learn, and why they enjoy learning. I want them to trust me as an educator and know that I

am a safe person to come to if they need. I also will be using informal assessments, like a checklist

so that I know exactly where my students are and where they need to be. I also really like the

idea of exit slips after units, so that I know that my students understood the materials being given

to them.

I will always make sure that ALL of my students are included in the activities and be able

to engage in them. I will make sure that I have variations for all my students no matter what their

particular needs may be; I will do my absolute best and beyond to execute this. I will do my

research, get the equipment and help them out in any way that they need me. I have been one of

those students that did not feel like I fit in with the rest. I will never let this happen to any of my

students. I will constantly and consistently be “cruising the perimeter” to ensure that all my

students are safe and involved in class.

I believe that everyone learns in a different manner but we all should have the same goal

in mind...and that is to be outstanding humans. We need to learn that our success is everyone’s

success. We need to support each other as individuals, I want my students to know and

understand why that is so important. I’d rather my students be good people vs. getting good
grades. However, having said that I want them to do well academically. My students' success in

class and in life is my number one priority.
