CC.2.4.3.A.3 Solve problems and make change involving money using a combination of coins
and bills.

II. Objective:
TSWBAT identify the cost of an item and round money to determine if they can purchase items.
TSWBAT add money to find a total.
III. Materials:
Grocery store advertisements
“Rounding Up” worksheet
IV. Lesson Development with Differentiation:
1. T displays a word problem that involves rounding money and adding.
2. T asks S to try to solve the problem independently.
3. T guides S in determining the solution, circulating to look for S who completed the problem
correctly.
4. T works through the problem with S to demonstrate how to round money “up”.
5. T projects second problem, asking S to demonstrate understanding of rounding “up”.
6. T projects worksheet and grocery store advertisements.
7. T walks S through choosing items and documenting on the sheet.
8. T demonstrates one item and does with S for the second item.
9. T passes out worksheets and advertisements.
10. S have time to work independently.
11. T circulates to offer assistance.
Differentiation:
Process – T allows S to bring in an advertisement to use for the rounding worksheet.

T collects the worksheets to evaluate if S accurately rounded and added the numbers.

Nate/Gianna (nonidentified struggling learner): Nate and Gianna will be provided extra time to
complete the assignment.
