Are you ready for the changing colors of the season, cooler temperatures, bonfires, and football? I know I sure am! Fall is my absolute favorite time of year, not just the season itself, but for stitching and punch needle as well. There are so many wonderful projects in this isue, I hope you have the same problem that I do, and that is trying to decide which project to do first! It has been a busy year so far but I also had some time to attend Stitch-Con 2021 back in June, hosted by Keepsakes in Cincinatti, OH. I had a great time and if'you get the chance to attend next year, I highly recommend. it. Ifyou are planning on attending Needlework Galleria in St. Charles, MO, I will be there so please stop by and say hello! Now that this issue has been put to bed, it will be time to start work on our biggest issue of the year, the Christmas- Winter Mega Isssue. This issue will be released in October and you won't want to miss it! I have time for one more retreat this year, and I am so excited to be able to meet some of the gals in the Ozark Stitchers group at the end of October. After all of that, I am hoping to take a bit of a break to enjoy some time at the lake as well as with family. Happy fall - stay well! Until next time, take care of you and yours, Al kb. Use a CTR punch needle to punch the design with the depth gauge set at “4 inch. 4. Punch deer pupil with DMC 310 or use a black bead 5. Randomly over punch large flower center with 45201 to give it some reflective light. 6. To create a fringed border: a, Remove all gauges from a six-strand CTR needle, or set Ultra Punch needle depth gauge to 12 and use a medium tip. b. Feed both P9 and PS threads through needle and punch three rows to create variegated fringe. 7. Remove design from hoop and fix any interlocking loops that distort shapes of major elements. 8. Snip stray threads or loops that extend beyond the height of the design. 9. Trim excess weavers cloth to about ' inch on each side. Fold excess weavers cloth to back, and then press. 10. (Optional) Cut fusible interfacing slightly smaller than design, and then adhere it to back to protect loops from pulling out. 11. Finish using your favorite method for framing or displaying your work. Getting Started ~ From Paper To Fabric How to Transfer a Punch Needle Pattern to Foundation Fabric 1. Lay the printed pattem on a light box or tape it to a bright window 2. Prepare the foundation fabric for pattern transfer: a. Weavers Cloth: Place the weavers cloth on top of the pattern, paying close attention to the stretch of the fabric. ‘The stretch of weavers cloth can warp the design proportions; there is a stretch on the weft (cross-grain) of the ‘weavers cloth, so be sure to transfer the pattern on the straight of grain with longer side of the pattern on the ‘warp ~ the long grain or non-stretchy direction -- of the fabric. Align the straight outside pattern lines on the straight grain of the weavers cloth. Tape the comers to hold in place. b. Looser foundation fabric, like a tightly woven wool: Place woven, fusible interfacing on top of the pattern with the non-adhesive side up. Tape the corners to hold in place. The weave of the interfacing is tight enough to hold the loops in the looser fabric. Nore: When punching, adjust the length of the punched loops to compensate for this extra thick layer of fabric; just make your loop gauges a bit shorter, exposing more of the needle 3. Trace all the pattern lines using a fine-tip, permanent marker. Be sure to mark any numbers or letters backwards when tracing them so when you punch them they will be facing correctly on the front of your piece. Since you mark the pattem on the back of the fabri, any mistakes in transferring the pattern are not visible inthe finished work. If you marked the pattern lines onto woven, fusible interfacing, center and iron the interfacing to the back of the foundation fabric according to manufacturer's directions 4, Once the pattem is on the foundation fabric, select an embroidery hoop in a size that will encompass the entire pattern without cutting across any pattern lines at any point. 5. Now you are ready to refer to the project instructions and punch the design. 10 2021 FALL PNPSMAGAZINE.COM Under the Midnight Sun Also see Punching/Color Key front petals 822 all stems 45344 452001 44 Wh 205 (©2021, Roberta Jackson, Dogwood Trails Arts cma 2021 FALL PNPSMAGAZINE.COM 11 e BEI oxrsuncae Copyright © 202 1, Nurdan Kanber Pilgrim's Prayer designed by Nurdan K anber of T win Peak Primitives www.twinpeakprimitives.com ‘Stitch count: 125 wide by 126 high Finished size: 8.66 inches wide x 8.67 inches high Bel ctitched by Dasiiaiehaya oN we 7 Jt ‘a levine Prayer Available From: *Hobby House Needleworks www-hobbyhouseneedleworks.com Phone: 585-233-4359 **JoAnn Fabric & Craft Store www,joann.com instructions: 1.
