THE AGA KHAN UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME

The Aga Khan Education Board invites applications from academically meritorious and financially
needy students of the Jamat who have secured admissions in the undergraduate programmes
in quality institutions of Pakistan.

The programme was initiated in 1995 and so far 1735 scholarships have been awarded through
a highly competitive and rigourous screening process.

OBJECTIVE

To provide an opportunity to meritorious and financially needy students to pursue studies at


the undergraduate or graduate level from recognised institutions in Pakistan by providing
financial assistance on a grant-cum-loan basis.

SCOPE

The scope of the Aga Khan Undergraduate Scholarship Programme is limited to the Ismaili
Community only.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF SCHOLARSHIP

The Aga Khan Undergraduate Scholarship Programme is announced twice a year. The Spring
cycle is launched in January, while the Fall cycle is launched in September.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Students who wish to apply for the Aga Khan Undergraduate Scholarship Programme must
meet the following criteria:
n Applicants who have obtained confirmed or provisional admission in recognised
institutions between the stipulated admission dates (mentioned in the ‘Important Dates
and Deadlines for The Aga Khan Undergraduate Scholarship Programme’ section) for
the cycle;

n Applicants who have obtained minimum 65% and cumulatively 135% (or equivalent) in
their last two public examinations;

n Applicants with genuine financial need.

INELIGIBILITY PROCEDURE TO APPLY FOR THE AGA KHAN UNDERGRADUATE
The following students are ineligible to apply for the Aga Khan Undergraduate Scholarship SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME

EXPENSES COVERED BY THE AGA KHAN UNDERGRADUATE


SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME AWARD
The Aga Khan Undergraduate Scholarship Programme Award covers the following expenses:
n Admission, tuition and examination fees (excluding refundable charges);
n Textbooks and project material costs;
n Transportation expenses from residence to the university (university/public bus charges
only); and
n Boarding and lodging expenses (for candidates living outside their city of residence).
Note: the Scholarship Awards are disbursed on an annual basis. Also, please remember
that the Aga Khan Undergraduate Scholarship Programme Award only provides
partial funding and must be considered as an avenue of last resort. Since the Aga Khan
Undergraduate Scholarship Programme Award contributes towards the total cost of funding,
the students must be able to demonstrate their ability to arrange funds from alternate
sources, including through family contribution. Please note that the average scholarship
amount disbursed in 2019-20 for public sector universities was Rs.124,747 and private
sector universities was Rs.151,679 per student.

The Scholarship Award is provided for the entire duration of the degree programme. However,
it is renewed annually on the basis of the applicant’s academic performance and financial need. The Aga Khan Undergraduate Scholarship Programme is awarded for selected institutions in
Pakistan that are recognised by AKEBP as quality education providers. The list of recognised

The Aga Khan Undergraduate Scholarship Programme is awarded on a 50% grant and 50% Lahore University of Engineering and Technology,
