Climate change has been affecting Ecuador in a few ways over the years.

Sudden
changes in temperature or anomalies in the weather are more and more frequent.
Extreme weather events have also increased, which mainly affects agriculture, fishing
and livestock in the country. The rise in sea level and the consequent floods also allow
the spread of tropical diseases. For all this, Ecuador urgently needs more policies to help
delay the disastrous effects of climate change on its ecosystems.

Ecuador is a developing country, the same one that is not economically capable of
facing climatic disasters nor abrupt climatic changes. The poverty rates are still alarming,
so an earthquake or a flood are very serious situations for Ecuadorians. Actually, it
doesn't have to be so devastating to create a conflict situation, just droughts getting
longer and temperatures dropping fast, affect people lives. Climate anomalies prevent
people from making a living from agriculture as they used to. Planting and harvesting
seasons are less predictable each time, and soils are less apt to be sown. This inevitably
affects the economy of the entire country, since we are export these agricultural
products, in addition to the fact that the prices of food products increase for
Ecuadorians themselves.

Temperature also affects animal species, many ecosystems are destroyed, killing the
animals that lived there. Ecuador has many unique animal species that are already in
danger of extinction, such as condors, otters, crocodiles, bears, and others. Their life
depends on the optimal climatic conditions of their habitat being maintained. Other
animals have been displaced to new places with climates that they are not used to.
Ecuador is full of very delicate and sensitive ecosystems, such as the Galapagos Islands,
or nature reserves. In these places the expansion of invasive species is bad serious, and
climate change is allowing that.

In addition, governments do not usually worry about preserving nature, there are other
priorities for them. A good example of that is the fact mining and oil extraction continue
to be prioritized over ecological or community well-being. Actually, many of the
country's ecological initiatives have come from foreigners or groups self-managed by
the people.

I believe that climate change affects the entire planet in general, but countries or places
like Ecuador have more disadvantages. Here habitats are very fragile, we have
ecosystems that never have been contacted, and a lot of people that depends on those
habitats. And I believe that this should be a team effort, all countries that collaborate
reducing their carbon footprint and carbon emissions. Only in this way we will be able
to protect our world, or at least save the rest that can still be protected.
