Coping mechanisms

“are the strategies people often use in the face of stress and/or

trauma to help manage painful or difficult emotions. Coping mechanisms can help people adjust

to stressful events while helping them maintain their emotional well-being” (GoodTherapy Blog,

n.d.). Ways of dealing with stress can be comprehensively arranged as active or avoidant.

Dynamic methods for dealing with stress ordinarily include a consciousness of the stressor and

conscious attempt to diminish pressure. Avoidant methods for dealing with stress, then again, are

described by overlooking or otherwise avoiding the problem. Some adapting techniques,

however they work for a period, are not successful for along term period. These insufficient

methods for dealing with stress, which can regularly be counterproductive or have unintended

negative results, are known as "maladaptive coping." Adaptive ways of dealing with stress are

those by and large viewed as solid and viable methods of managing stressful situations.

Depression is the main cause of disability worldwide, according to the World Health

Organization (WHO). It can affect adults, adolescents, and children. Goldman (2019) stated that

“Depression is a mood disorder that involves a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest.

It is different from the mood fluctuations that people regularly experience as a part of life. Major

life events, such as bereavement or the loss of a job, can lead to depression. However, doctors

only consider feelings of grief to be part of depression if they persist. Depression is an ongoing

problem, not a passing one. It consists of episodes during which the symptoms last for at least 2

weeks. Depression can last for several weeks, months, or years.”
