Marianne: WELCOME TO BICOL REGION! Bicol is the adventure capital of the Philippines, and is well known for its active volcanoes,
tranquil whale sharks, secret beaches and spicy food. The Bicol Region, designated as Region V, is one of the 17 regions of the
Philippines. Their native region is commonly referred to as Bicolandia, which comprises the entirety of the Bicol Peninsula and
neighbouring minor islands, all in the southeast part of Luzon. The region is composed of six provinces, namely, Albay, Camarines
Norte, Camarines Sur, Sorsogon and the island-provinces of Catanduanes and Masbate. The regional centers are Legazpi, the political
and administrative center, and the Naga City, the cultural and religious center. Along with Sorsogon City, they are the main cities of the
region in terms of urbanization and center of economic activity. The Bicolano or Bikolanos are the fourth largest ethnolinguistics group
in the Philippines. Males are usually referred to as Bicolano and Bicolana is used for females. Bicolanos, speak any of the several
languages of the Bikol macrolanguage, also called Bikolano, an Austronesian language closely related to other Central Philippine
languages such as Cebuano and Tagalog. Standard Bikol is based from the coastal Bikol language of the dialect of Legazpi City and is
understood widely throughout the region even though they cannot speak it fluently. The Bikol macrolanguage is the dominant
language of the region. The Filipino language (Tagalog) is also spoken in northern parts of Camarines Norte as well as in the
municipality of Del Gallego, Camarines Sur. Two Visayan languages, Sorsoganon and Masbateño or Minasbate, are spoken in Masbate
and Sorsogon; they are collectively referred to as Bisakol. According to a folk epic entitled Ibalong, the people of the region were
formerly called Ibalong or Ibalnong, a name believed to have been derived from Gat Ibal who ruled Sawangan (now the city of Legazpi) in
ancient times. Ibalong used to mean the "people of Ibal"; eventually, this was shortened to Ibalon. The word Bikol, which replaced
Ibalon, was originally bikod (meaning "meandering"), a word which supposedly described the principal river of that area. They are
largely agricultural and rural people, producing rice, coconuts, and hemp. They are rich in spices. That's why Bicolanos are said to be
great when it comes to eating chilli food or foods that are rich in spices. Just like the famous dish called" Bicol Express" The region
retains Roman Catholicism as the overwhelming religion of the great majority. The Catholic religion has the highest number of
followers than any other area in the Philippines. Fiestas (Feast day of saints) are annual celebrations of parishes, from a simple barrio
fiesta honoring a patron associated for good harvest, to a town fiesta honoring a miraculous saint, or a regional one such as the Our
Lady of Peñafrancia Fiesta, a week-long celebration to honor the Virgin Mary, dubbed as the "Queen Patroness of Bicolandia". It is
widely acknowledged that in Luzon, it is the Bicol Region that holds the most number of men entering the seminary for Catholic
priesthood, or women entering the religious life to become Catholic nuns.

Samantha: Bicol region is famous for the literature called An parabareta. It was the first newspaper that was published by Mariano

Banggi”. Srung Banggi takes pride in having a regional folk song that captures the character and aspirations of its people. It is Bicol’s
signature ballad, and arguably one of the country’s most popular and well-loved folk songs. Its was written by Potenciano Gregorio of
Libog town (now Sto. Domingo) in Albay, the song literally means “one night.” It tells about an enchanted evening encounter between a
love-struck man and a lovely rural lass. It was written on May 10, 1910 and the song was arranged for a band by Gregorio in 1918 and
performed by Banda de Libog, the municipal brass band. The Bikolano can write memorable and significant pieces. The native literary
tradition has been resurrected and kept. How to make the people aware and how to make them read as well and how to multiply these
writings so they can be disseminated have to be resolved. The Bikol people have a writing tradition with roots in its ancient folkways.
Still extant are charm verses exploiting the possibilities of words in folk poems and narratives with mythical content, and bound with
early historical fragments which form part of the people’s lives. In bicol region, their other neighboring regions, Bicolanas are also

Ahron: The story purpose is that how social life can be so difference about two people like how santos is have privileged life , and fabia
is farmer that struggles to make ends meet. they have both different life . the story showcases the interaction of two and how theyre
separated by class, like how santos trying not to be rude noticing the messiness of fabia's living conditions and fabia trying to
entertain her guest santos. The structuralism of this type or prose was used to analyze this literary text as well as for in depth
understanding.

NASH: So the style of the author in telling the story through an introduction was inserting the dialogues is quite appealing to those
readers. Tho it makes the story much better in spite the sadness and gloominess of those mood in the story. So even Fabia was a
farmer he entertained Santos by telling his struggles in his life, then the highlight of it is when Fabia reminiscent his previous
happenings or his past when in his own country. The story was so vivid, that the readers would feel like the same of Fabia's emotion.
But sometimes, you know, I miss that house: the roosting chicken and low-topped walls. I miss my brothers and sisters. Mother sitting
in her chair, looking like a pale ghost in a corner of the room…….”. So even fabia miss his own country he should leave it for his own life
to have they're needs in everyday life. The Story Scent of apple talks about how society affects human lives. How society dictates the
way they run their lives . and how its so difference. it showcases the real life experience of filipino immigrants and that theyre still
longing for their country . Santos still shows that carry the manners of filipinos even in foreig land. It was great to know that how
filipino work hard for their family and how it shows the differenc of the two social life of the two characters. The Story Scent of apple
