INTRODUCTION

Barber as we known is a worker that use to cut our hair. Barber is actually is a person whose
occupation is mainly to cut, dress, groom, style and shave men's and boys' hair or beard. A
place that barber work is called as “ barbershop ” or “ barber’s “. Barbershop is also a place
of social interaction and public discourse. In some instances, barbershops are also public
forums. In modern times, the term "barber" is used both as a professional title and to refer
to hairdressers who specialize in men's hair. Historically, all hairdressers were considered
barbers. In the 20th century, the profession of cosmetology branched off from barbering, and
today hairdressers may be licensed as either barbers or cosmetologists. Barbers differ with
respect to where they work, which services they are licensed to provide, and what name they
use to refer to themselves. Part of this terminology difference depends on the regulations in a
given location. In Malaysia, usually young generation was in this arena because they can
express their art when they cut their client hair.

2
BACKGROUND

Bro’s Barbershop was created two years ago. The founder of this barbershop is myself and
has been help by my partnership which is my own brother, Mohamad Iqbal. We share this
barbershop because I lack with capital but I has skill in cutting client hair and my brother do
not has skill but has capital. We start this barbershop because we in my area, this industry has
been monopoly by outsider especially Indonesian people. There no local people in this
industry at my area and I think local people must take this valuable opportunity and use it
well. Our first and main store is in Jalan Kebun, Shah Alam. Now they has three store
including main store around Klang and Shah Alam and also has 12 barber’s. Before this, only
there three barber’s in the main store and it has increase within the year. Second store was
open in Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam and third store was in Bukit Tinggi, Klang. Each store
has four barber’s and there will be one leader in each store. We are planning to open more
our outlet around Selangor first before around Malaysia. We also participate in Malaysia
Hairdressing Association (MHA) that has some purpose. The purpose is to meet the needs of
the hairdressing industry in Malaysia includes hair competition, hair show and hair
convention, promote the hairdressing interests and professionalism, be it mental or moral
improvement of hairdressers, meet the hair industry educational needs and provide hair
industry information to members and promote and maintain hair industry welfares and ethical
business practice.

PLACE

The first place that my brother and I start this business is in Jalan Kampung Batu 7, Kampung
Jalan Kebun, 40460, Shah Alam, Selangor. At first, this place is an old barbershop that has
been not used, but with the combination of our creativity which is combination from the
classic-Malaysian style and modern such as rock and row, jazz, caferacer and vibe has
attracted not only young generation but also elderly. We want to customer feel back when
70’s and 80’s in Malaysia when the customer enter our store. This can bring back memory to
the elderly and can give a great new experience to the village customer when they have our
services.

PRODUCT

If it’s called barber, the product that we serve must be has relationship with care-related
services between hair and beard. The product can also be service that produce by the barber
and also from the product that applied to the customer. For example, shaving is a service but
hair cream is a product that been used to the customer. In Bro’s Barber, we also sell care
product especially for hair and beard care. And not will be forget, we also sell pomade to the
customer that want their hair more stylish after have cut with our barber.

Picture 3. Basic tools in a barbershop.

I will tell you what is the thing in the Picture 2 and what function is it in each item. It will
help you to recognize which is the item.

Item Function
1. STRAIGHT-BLADED SCISSOR A straight-bladed scissor can be used to trim
hair, beards, and mustaches. The curved
handle allows you to easily cut bangs or
around the ears. Insert serrations or use a
pair of shears on thinner hair to make the
finished cut look even and complete.
2. STRAIGHT RAZOR A straight razor, also called an open or cut-
throat razor, is a traditional tool that’s been
around for thousands of years. It gives a
close, but safe shave. It can be used on
facial hair, on the neckline, and for carving
straight lines around the beard. Make short,
light strokes, maintaining at least a 30-
degree angle. Use a strop to maintain the
razor and keep it sharp.
3. HAIR COMB All sorts of combs come in handy
depending on the hair length and style. A
barber comb usually has both fine and thick
teeth that help keep the cut uniform for each
section of hair. The fading comb has teeth
that go from short to long and is especially
useful when creating the popular fade cut. A
scissor over comb is good for blending and
achieving a close cut on shorter hair.
4. ELECTRIC CLIPPER Every barber needs an electric clipper or
trimmer. The clipper guards help style the
hair and create a unique design. As the
blades smoothly run along the contours of
the head, they trim the hair without pulling
the follicles out of the scalp.
5. DUSTER BRUSH Don’t leave your client with an itchy neck!
A duster is much more effective than a
towel for brushing away the stray hairs,
especially off the back of the neck. Be sure
to keep it clean for each client.

6
PRICE

Price was define as is the sum of the values that a customer give to gain benefit of having or
using a product or service. Thus, customer exchange a certain value for having or using the
product. For the price of Bro’s Barbershop product, we set a fixed price to their product
which is affordable to the customer. This means that the business is using status quo pricing
objectives where it seeks to maintain existing prices. Although there a lots of competitor for
the business, we still using the same existing price since the business opened because we
know in this area there some of the citizen were not cannot afford even just to cut hair. We
also understanding their situation and we were set the price with the affordable to everyone.
For now, the price for cut the hair is around RM 5 to RM 15. For child, the price is around
RM 5 to RM 10. For adult, the price was around RM 10 to RM 15 determined to the service
that they want to apply.

this in our mind, we can see the disadvantages and advantages of our marketing strategies.
For example, if we see a deficiency in our promotion, we can look for ways to improve our
