Ms. Boudreau’s Room

November 2021
We were busy learning about Ancient Egypt.  Jack and Annie took us on a
wonderful adventure inside a pyramid with hieroglyphics on the wall and a
sarcophagus in the burial chamber.  We used clues in the story to make predictions
about what will happen next and figure out who owns the tree house. Next, we will
be learning about Pirates!
Please make sure your child has a warm coat, hat and mittens on chilly days-
LABEL THEM as it makes it easier to return lost items. We will go out for recess as
long as the temperature is above freezing. Please have your child practice how to
put on and zipper his/her own coat.

Spotlight Activity:  Turn and Talk

During turn and talk, students are turning to a partner on the rug to discuss a
given topic. The students have really increased their ability to find a partner
independently and take turns speaking and listening. They also do a great job at
facing their partner and looking at them in their eyes as they communicate! We are
going to start double talk, which means they find another partner and communicate
their message to two children.

Our Week In School:

What’s happening in centers:  We dramatized roles from Ancient Egypt and acted
out events from our Magic Tree House story. We learned to extend our play using
our background knowledge. The students also made projects and props for Ancient
Egypt. Next week, we will start building background knowledge and complete props
and projects for Pirates!
Reading & Writing Skills that are being practiced: In Fundations, we are continuing
to learn letter names, sounds and letter formation. Please practice letter formation
at home each night. Here are videos on how to form the lowercase letters:

Also, review vowel sounds. Here is a video showing the vowel chart we use at
school: https://youtu.be/E28yC8kJI_E
This week, we will play a Fundations themed I Have Who Has game and a Bingo
game!

Math Skills that are being practiced: Students are inventing and solving different
types of number stories using a variety of strategies. Additionally, we are using a ten
frame to represent numbers and explore number combinations. We will begin to
work on number formations to 20! Continue to work on writing numbers and
counting to 100!
