VoLTE Frequency Hopping

2 Feature Operation

2.1 Network Requirements

This is a licensed feature. This means that for the feature to be operational, a
valid license key must be installed and the feature must be explicitly activated by
setting a Managed Object Model (MOM) attribute.

The following must be fulfilled at feature activation:

— The QoS-Aware Scheduler feature license must be activated

— The TTI Bundling feature license must be activated

— The UE must support TTI Bundling

— The RLC in Unacknowledged Mode feature license must be activated

2.2 VoLTE Frequency Hopping

VoLTE Frequency Hopping is an enhancement of TTI bundling. The feature
improves the coverage for VoLTE users in the uplink. VoLTE Frequency Hopping is
only used when TTI bundling is enabled. 3GPP allows for multiple variants of
PUSCH Frequency Hopping with different configurations.

This feature supports inter-subframe Type 2 PUSCH Hopping with one subband.
This results in hopping resources that are mirrored in the center of the bandwidth.
For example, the first and third transmissions of the bundle are transmitted as
usual. The second and fourth transmissions are on frequency resources that are
mirrored in the center of the bandwidth (see Figure 1). As a result minimum
spectrum fragmentation and maximum frequency diversity is obtained. Also, no
UE capability is required for this configuration of frequency hopping. All UEs that
support TTI Bundling also support VoLTE Frequency Hopping.

When a UE is configured to use TTI Bundling via RRC signalling, it transmits

PUSCH in four consecutive TTIs according to the uplink grant. The PUSCH data
and frequency resources on which the data is transmitted in the four TTIs
remains identical. When VoLTE Frequency Hopping is activated, the PRBs for
second and last TTI are mirrored around the central frequency. See the right
picture in Figure 1.

5 Associated Features and Affected Functions

5.1 Prerequisite Features

The following are prerequisite features to this feature. They must be active prior
to introducing the VoLTE Frequency Hopping feature.

— QoS-Aware Scheduler

— TTI Bundling

5.2 Affected Features

Table 1 lists features that are affected by the VoLTE Frequency Hopping feature.

Table 1 Affected Features

Feature Description
Uplink Frequency-Selective Scheduling FSS is not used for a UE that uses TTI Bundling and VoLTE
(FSS) Frequency Hopping.
Scheduler
TTI Bundling
Multi-Clustered PUSCH During the scheduling, the TTI Bundling mode has precedence
over Multi-Clustered PUSCH. There is no restriction on having
these features activated at the same time.

5.3 Affected System Functions

This feature affects no system functions.

VoLTE Frequency Hopping

7 Activate VoLTE Frequency Hopping

Prerequisites

— The license key is installed in the node.

— Continuous Cell Trace Recording (CCTR) is activated since at least one week.
This ensures there is troubleshooting data available if something goes
wrong.

Steps

1. Set the attribute featureState to ACTIVATED in the applicable MO

instance, depending on node type:

Node Type License Control MO

DU Radio Node OptionalFeatureLicense=VolteFrequencyHop
ping
Baseband-based Node FeatureState=CXC4011914

After This Task

Let the CCTR be active for one week, for continued collection of troubleshooting
data.

Deactivate VoLTE Frequency Hopping

8 Deactivate VoLTE Frequency Hopping

Prerequisites
Continuous Cell Trace Recording (CCTR) is activated since at least one week. This
ensures there is troubleshooting data available if something goes wrong.

Steps

1. Set the attribute featureState to DEACTIVATED in the applicable MO

instance, depending on node type:

Node Type License Control MO

DU Radio Node OptionalFeatureLicense=VolteFrequencyHop
ping
Baseband-based FeatureState=CXC4011914

After This Task

Let the CCTR be active for one week, for continued collection of troubleshooting
data.
