LESSON A: THE WAY WE ACT

1. Look at the photo and answer:

a. What type of site is it?

b. What is the topic discussed?

and answer the questions.

d. Write a short conclusion about your findings.


2. Now read about Behavioural Economics p. 47- 49 “The Language Lab Library Essentials of
Economics” (Don’t pay attention to Exploring Economics box yet) and say how the questions
answered in point 1 relate to the concepts described in the text. Write between four and six
sentences. Use the Verbal System Poster as a guide.

E.g. Behavioural Economics makes the rationality assumption of traditional economics less
rigid and looks at the way people actually behave and the questions we answered aim at
understanding people’s purchase decisions.

3. Discuss: Why might different people respond differently from each other in otherwise
similar circumstances?

LESSON B: NUDGING PEOPLE

1. Look at the Exploring Economics Box “The Language Lab Library Essentials of Economics” p.
48 and Explain the title: Nudging People: How to change Behaviour.

2.Now answer the three questions below the text.

1. How would you nudge members of a student household to be more economical in the use
of electricity?

2. How could the government nudge people to stop drop ping litter?

3. In the 2011 Budget, George Osborne announced that charitable giving in wills would be
exempt from inheritance tax. Do you think this will be an effective way of encouraging more
charitable donations?

LESSON C: Unboxing Videos

1. Look at the following photo and answer:
