IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING MARKS

In order to clarify things regarding PECs and exams, and how much they
carry in your final grade, here follow some comments.
There is ONLY ONE PEC FOR SEMESTER in this subject, marked by
your tutors from 0 to 10. Each PEC carries 20% of the final grade and the
exam will carry 80%. Since each PEC represents 20% for each term, you can
get a possible maximum grade of 2 marks per semester for your PEC. There
is no pass mark for PECs, i.e. there is no minimum mark you need to get in
your PECs.
You can get a maximum mark of 8 in your exams (please check the
“mock exam”), and the minimum exam mark you need to pass each semester
is 5. Your final mark will be based on the sum of the PEC and the exam, as
long as the latter is above 5. To work out your final mark correctly, the
system will need to recalculate your PEC mark. For instance, if you got 7
marks in your PEC, the system will understand that it has to add 1.4 marks
to your exam mark (7 x 0.2 = 1.4). If you fail your exam in February and/or
June, your PEC mark will be kept until September of the ongoing academic
year and added when you pass your exam.
Here you have some examples:
- You get 5.5 in your exam and 6 (1.2) in your PEC: you pass the
semester, and your final mark is 6.7 (5.5+1.2=6.7).
- You get 4 in your exam and 8 (1.6) in your PEC: you need to take the
exam again in September, because you did not pass it. If you get at
least 5 marks in September, then your final mark for that semester
will be at least 6.6 (5+1.6=6.6).
- You get 5 in your exam and 0 in your PEC (because you did not
submit it): you pass the semester, and your final mark is 5 (5+0=5).
- You get 5 in your exam and 4 (0.8) in your PEC: you pass the
semester despite the low mark in your PEC, and your final mark is
5.8 (5+0.8=5.8).
