Major works on idioms containing the “dog” image in English and Vietnamese

Through the history of research papers, works examining the English idioms containing the
imaged of “animal” in comparison with its equivalents in Vietnamese have increased more and
more. However, when the animal is more specific to be dogs, there have been fewer, and
especially for the major works on the topic of “dog” image in English - Vietnamese idioms when
being compared to each other. As I have mentioned former, the works on comparison English -
Vietnamese idioms of “dog” images are not major. Despite the fact, there are still some papers
about the relevance of dog-related idioms in both English and Vietnamese: Hình ảnh con chó
trong thành ngữ và tục ngữ tiếng Anh extracted from Ngon Ngu & Doi Song Press (2000), Hình
ảnh con chó trong thành ngữ, tục ngữ Việt Nam (H.A.,2006), Vietnamese and English idioms
related to the word "dogs (Nguyen Le Hoang Yen, 2012). Along with these research papers,
most of the related works focus on the various characteristics of language use applied by idioms
in both languages. In terms of lexical application, the works stay mainly in word choice,
differences in word use in English - Vietnamese idioms. In another aim, the works centre the
figures of speech, pay more attention to the connotations rather than the denotation. In some
other works, formations and structures are the priorities when comparing the idioms. There fore,
the majority of works lies on the various figures of speech, lexical choice and formation:
