When learning something about a certain topic, whatever it is, it is important for everyone to

trace its roots or the reason why such thing happened as being unknowledgeable about it may lead to
some confusions or wrong information. In this topic, the First Cry of Rebellion which was led by Andres
Bonifacio in the year 1896 inspired by many reasons. According to the video, his idea of revolution did
not emerge from any simple reason, it is not like he made the revolution because he just wanted to
revolt but because he knew what our Filipino ancestors were fighting for. This revolution of Andres was
a product of historical process.

It all started when Spaniards went to the Philippines, colonized it and brought disruption to our
country. But before that, we also should keep in mind that Spaniards also brought good to us such as
our religion, the Christianity, as well as culture and architectural structures. Having this positive impact
that happened to us within their time should not let us neglect the fact that they did bad things to our
Filipino ancestors. Life of Filipinos were very difficult back then especially for those people who do not
want to obey the system implemented by the colonizers. There were different reactions made by the
Filipinos, first is the acceptance, people who accept the Catholicism and the colonial system. Relating to
their colonial system, spaniards imposed economic policies such as Encomienda, in which
encomenderos gained control of the land inhabited by indigenous people; Tributo, excessive paying of
taxes; Polos y Servicios, in which men were forced to do a paid labor however there was already
corruption that is why they did not have the chance to be paid. As men were taken away from the farm
to do force labor, scarcity was occurring in some areas. Another policy implemented was, the Bandala,
define as quota that is given to a certain province to produce products like rice or corn and then Filipinos
will sell their products to the Spanish government for a very low price. Galleon trade and conscription
was also part of economic policies. Second reaction of the Filipinos was going to the mountains in order
to avoid Spanish contact and colonization, Spaniards called them aswang, remontados, bandits and
many more but these mountain people have retained their culture not like those lowlanders who
accepted the Spaniards. Third and last reaction was making the different revolutions, there were many
revolts before 1896, some of these were the Tondo Conspiracy, Tamblot, Bankaw, Sumuroy, Tapar, the
revolt of Diego and Gabriela Silang, Francisco Dagohoy, Basi Revolt, the revolt of Manuel, Jose, and
Joaquin Bayot, Andres Novales’ revolt, Hermano Puli, and lastly the well-known Cavite Mutiny. These
different revolts were the inspiration and the reason why Andres Bonifacio started the Philippine
Revolution in 1896. It is important for us to know that Gomburza execution or the Cavite Mutiny was not
the only reason of Andres Bonifacio’s revolt.
