RESULTS and DISCUSSION

This activity instructed us to draw the microbiology laboratory apparatuses and

state its functions. After doing it, I learned the different types of equipment used in
laboratory such as the petri dish in which it is used to culture different microorganisms
and cells, the inoculating loop that is used mainly to retrieve an inoculum from a culture
of microorganisms, the inoculating needle which is used in the field to transfer and
inoculate living microorganisms. In addition to that, I also learned that when staining
cells and tissues we need to use staining jar, and when measuring solid, moving
objects, and scraping material spatula is what we need. Applicator sticks is use for
specimen transfer, and mixing liquids while alcohol lamp is used for heating,
sterilization, and combustion. Furthermore, I understand that hanging drop slide is used
to observe motility of bacteria; beaker is used for containing chemical reaction, holding
and measuring fluids, and mixing liquids; Erlenmeyer flask is used to measure large
volume of liquids, mix and store chemicals, heat liquids, and catch filtrates.

CONCLUSIONS

After doing the activity, I concluded that there are different laboratory apparatus
that we can use in our experiment which has different functions. Learning each of the
laboratory apparatus is essential for us student so that we can be guided with the
proper usage of the equipment and to avoid danger in the laboratory. In order to be safe
we need to use the equipments properly and always be mindful of the instructions that
the professor gave so that accident will not happen.
