Title: Laboratory Tools

Learning Objectives:
● Enumerate and identify the
uses of laboratory tools and
equipment.
● Discuss the importance of
following safety rules in the use
of laboratory.
● Adapt the good values of a
scientist in our daily life.
LABORATORY TOOLS
> Objects that are used by scientist to
perform experiments inside the laboratory.
It is a simple
container used for
mixing, stirring,
and heating.

Beaker
Test Tube
Used to hold small
quantities of liquid.
Used to hold test
tubes upright
while observing
reactions or when
test tubes are not
used in
experiments.
Test Tube Rack
Bunsen Burner
It is a small laboratory
burner consisting of a
vertical metal tube
connected to a gas a source
and producing a very hot
flame from gas and air.
It is used to
transfer liquids to
another container
so they will not
spill.

Funnel
Pipette
Pipette is used for moving
small amounts of liquid
from one container to
another. It is usually made
of plastic and is disposable.
Used for weighing
substances.
Electronic
Scale
Used for growing
microorganisms.

Petri Dish
Spatula
Used for picking up
and transporting
small quantities of
powder/solid.
Tongs
Used to hold many
different things such as
flasks, crucibles and
evaporating dishes when
they are hot.
Tripod
Used for supporting
wire gauze over a
Bunsen burner.
Microscope
Used for magnifying an
object.
Graduated Cylinder

Used for measuring

volumes of liquids.
Used for
crushing,
grinding &
grounding
substances.

Mortar & Pestle

It is used to heat
and evaporate
liquids.

Evaporating
Basin
Erlenmeyer
Flask
It is used to heat
and store liquids.
Thermometer
Used for
measuring
temperature in
degrees.
Used for
measuring the
amount of time
elapsed.

Stop Watch
Wire Gauze
Used for distributing
heat evenly &
supporting beakers/
flasks during heating.
Test Tube Holder

It used to hold test

tubes while being
heated.
Safety Signs
1.POISONOUS

The skull and crossbones

symbol means the product is
poisonous. Licking, eating,
drinking, or smelling a substance
marked with this symbol can
make you very sick or even
cause death.
Safety Signs
2. FLAMMABLE or
EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE

 type of warning sign and

highlight the presence of a
flammable gas or liquid.
Flammable means the substance
can be easily set on fire if exposed
to a source of ignition.
Safety Signs
3. CORROSIVE

 warns users that a chemical may

cause burns and skin corrosion
and could be harmful to eyes. It
also indicates a chemical is
corrosive to metals.
