2. Clothing
Everyone should wear appropriate clothing for working within the lab. Shoes must
also be included with clothing, avoid any shoes which expose the skin. The use of
jewelry should also be avoided during any experiments.
3. Safety Goggles
If required, each individual wear the appropriate safety goggles all throughout any
exercise within the lab. Contact lenses are not acceptable. It is possible that a
foreign substance or particle may become lodged between the eye and lens
which in turn may cause harmful permanent damage to the eye.
4. Long Hair
If you happen to have long hair, it should be properly tied during the entire lab
period.
C. Hygiene

time you are within or nearby the lab areas and hallways. Tasting, drinking or
smelling any substance which, you are working with within the lab is also
absolutely PROHIBTED.
D. Discipline
Maintaining appropriate disciplinary behavior within the lab is necessary, therefore
the following are prohibited:
• Running in the Lab.
• Distractions: avoid socializing with others.
• Visits from students from other classes.
• Sitting on the worktables.
• Playing
• Executing original experiments without prior consultation from the teacher.
E. Wastes
Throwing wastes in the wash areas is not allowed. The teacher will provide the
appropriate containers for each experiment and will instruct you on how to properly
dispose of all waste material.
F. Instructions
Make sure you understand what experiment will be practiced. It is the responsibility
of all students to know exactly what their role is in each experiment will be before
starting. Carefully read and review the instructions listed in lab manual for each
experiment.
Once you have carefully read these instructions, review the instructions provided
by your teacher, try to visualize the best possible working methods, necessary
equipment and materials and manual practices required for the experiment. Finally,
carefully review all precautionary measures provided by this document.
Very Important:
• Apparatus should not be taken from another position. If something is
missing, notify the instructor, and either equipment will be replaced, or
appropriate adjustments will be made.
• Students should be distributed as evenly as possible among the available
positions.
• Generally, no more than eight students should be working together.
• At the end of the class the equipment should left neatly arranged for the
next class.
• Nonfunctioning equipment should be reported before leaving. All papers and
personal items must be removed.
• You need to come well prepared for the experiment. Conduct the
experiments with interest and an attitude of learning.
• Work quietly and carefully (the whole purpose of experimentation is to make
reliable measurements) and equally share the work with your partners.
• Be honest in recording and representing your data. Never make up readings
or doctor them to get a better fit for a graph. If a particular reading appears
wrong repeat the measurement carefully. In any event all the data recorded
in the tables must be faithfully displayed on the graph.
A. Teacher Responsibility:
At the Beginning of the Scholar year:
- Review the established emergency evacuation procedures with the students.
- Draw a map detailing the emergency exit route located in the lab and the
“meeting” point.
- Once the alarm has gone off, will wait in front of hallway of their lab, awaiting
exiting instructions form the lab technicians.
- In case of an emergency evacuation the teacher will shut off the gas line in the
lab if possible.
- The evacuation will commence with the teacher located at the exit leading the
students.
- Once out of the building, roll call will be required by the students and all will await
further instructions from administrative personnel.
- The “meeting-point” will be farthest and most secure area away from the building.
This will be the meeting point of all personnel (teachers/students) who find
themselves within the school at the time of the emergency. The meeting point will
be the high school parking.
B. Student Responsibility:
In case of an actual emergency, it is required to evacuate the building, following
these instructions:
1. Once the Alarm goes off:
- Remain within the lab until you receive instructions from either the teacher or Lab
Tech.
- Remain calm, in order and in control.
2. During the evacuation:
- You will direct yourself towards the indicated emergency exit “walking,” not
“running.”
- While going down the stairs it is recommended you proceed in an orderly fashion
utilizing caution.
- Once out of the building, you will await further instructions from administrative
personnel of the institution.
