a position to attend the university with my present condition and circumstances. My doctor has
stringently directed me to take complete bed rest for essential recovery. Therefore, I will need to
remain off work until next month.

I am writing to you because I would like to request some new furniture for our office. As you are
aware of the recent construction, we need a number of tables for employees in order to perform
important tasks. We are also in need of some chairs for the customers so that they have
somewhere to sit in the office while waiting for their required information.

As you know, that first impression is vital and crucial because the customer wants to see a state
of the art and professional office. Consequently, this will regulate and determine if the customer
wants to do business with us or chose to go somewhere else.

This is why the office needs the mentioned furniture and maybe some slight decorations too in
order to provide an elbow room for the customers as well as the employees. I hope that you will
consider my request for the requested furniture. Please let me know your preferences.

1- Why it is thought that man could be a doctor according to the lesson “The Door
swings open"?
Answer: According to the lesson “The Door Swings open”, there was a time when women were
not allowed to become doctors. People used to think that women were not so capable and strong
enough that could bear the stress which is required to become a doctor.

2- Who was the first American lady succeeded to become a doctor?

Answer: The first lucky American woman who got admission in a medical college and was
succeeded to become a lady doctor was Elizabeth Black.

3- How did Elizabeth get admission in the medical college?

Answer: An influential and famous doctor recommended Elizabeth for admission in medical
college. The administration could not refuse the doctor’s proposal so they put the issue in front
of the student union and hoped that they would refuse her admission. Unfortunately, the students
gave their vote in favor of Elizabeth Black so the college had to admit her in the medical college.

4- Why did the college authorities not wish to give an admission in their college
for a woman?
Answer: The college authorities did not wish to give admission for a woman in the college
because they were influenced by the customs and traditions of those times when a woman could
not perform her duties properly as a doctor.

5- What efforts did appear in the presence of a woman students among the male
students in the medical college?
Answer: The male students were rude but after the admission of Elizabeth as a woman student,
the entire situation got changed. Henceforth, the presence of a woman proved to be more helpful
in the discipline of the college than the rules.
