PITCH PERFECT

ROUND 2
PROBLEM STATEMENT-AEROSPACE AND DATA SCIENCES
The success of ISRO has brought in a new wave of private companies and start-ups in the
Indian aerospace and data science market. The industry is booming with investors willing to
pay heavy sums of money to their names far and beyond. From satellite imaging to space
vacations, nothing is off the table – yielding an acute surge in global interest in aeronautical
advancements. Propulsion and rocket technology ventures such as Bellatrix, Satellite makers
such as Dhruva Space and Team Indus aspire to bid for their very own space missions rather
than just merely assisting ISRO missions. Start-ups like Kawa Space, have even put forth
bold proposals like democratising space by providing space as a service.
This new wave of space technology start-ups emerging all over India has been largely made
possible due to a reduction in launch costs and ISRO’s continued effort to reduce the
manufacturing and production cost of satellites.
When talking about satellites, the general perception is of multimillion-dollar behemoths. But
things have changed, owing to the improved technology and prototypes that are far more
affordable and accessible. Today, small satellites can be built quickly and launched at a
reasonable cost. Thus, innovation is the core principle for the growth and development of the
Aerospace and data science industry.
Your start-up aims at catching up to the standards of ISRO/NASA or any reputed aerospace
industry so that your technology and creations are assets to the aerospace field.
As a mindful innovator, optimise and improve upon the functioning of your Aerospace industry,
incorporating the use of available and practicable technologies. The profits gained over 5 years
after setting up the industry(based on projections made in the previous round) should be used to
fuel your ideas. The key challenges faced by the Aerospace sector include- lack of
accelerated innovation; test, validation and verification; leverage innovation
collaboration; manufacturing in the Industrial Renaissance, dealing with space debris
and related problems etc. Develop a framework to improve upon these shortcomings
and present your results in the form of a presentation.
Your presentation should include:
· A well thought ideation of the technology to be implemented
· A feasible framework of the costs to be included along-with the budget
· A sustainable development of your technology to keep the environmental harm to the
minimum
· Back up plans to be implemented while keeping the various risks in mind
· Strategies to overcome obstacles faced by the aerospace industry with respect to your
start up, etc.
· Brief explanation of what your satellite start-up aims at improvising in the industry
for example: space debris, supply chain and digitalization issues, etc
· Contingency budget and plans for calculated failures
ALL THE BEST!
Note: Use appropriate statistical data in the form of tables and charts wherever
required. Incorporate flow sheets and block diagrams to ease the process descriptions.
