I had never been more anxious in my life .I had just spent the last three endless hours trying
to get to the airport so I could travel home. Now as I glanced at my watch, I realized that my
frustration had only just began. I picked up my luggage and went through the enormous
glass doors.
My semester at university had ended a few days ago nut I decided to fly home late as I had
an extra project to cover. I was quite late so I rushed to find the check in counter. However,
I found myself in a predicament that I could not conjecture. While passing through the
security system, the officer checked my passport and started mumbling with another
officer. The confusion gave me anxiety, my blood started boiling. They called me over and I
asked them why and they stringently replied, “ A random check.” I knew something was
wrong, my heart palpitating I couldn’t breathe anymore. In my mind I was trying to stay
calm but when they started patting me rigorously, I got scared but I knew no one around.
They then ordered that I take off my jacket. I helplessly agreed as it was clearly a necessity.
But I figured out that they thought I was a terrorist, still I stayed quiet as that was all I could
do. One of the officers then took my bag and checked through it.
After a couple of mind-numbing minutes, they let me go. I was so relieved but then again, I
was even more late now. I bolted through the luggage check in and then at last I reached
the immigration line, where they asked me for my student visa, I checked for it in my bag
but it wasn’t there. Though I clearly remembered putting it there. I started frustrating again
and started to feel dizzy now. All I could think about was that if I missed my flight, I wouldn’t
be able to go back home as a new flight wasn’t affordable at the moment.
Despite of being in despair, I saw a woman running towards me screaming and yelling with
excitement, she handed me my student visa and whispered in my ear I saw them take it so I
fought for it. I saw her ticket and realized that her gate was next to mine so I accompanied
her. Tears formed in my eyes as I saw the deserted lobby and realized that missed my
flight. The woman saw the desperation in my eyes and asked for the ticket. She smirked and
said, “You are at the wrong gate.” I smiled in embarrassment, when I was finally going to
board, I turned around to thank her for her help but she was gone. I never got to know her
name nut I was very thankful to the angel in disguise.
