Used To, Be Used To, Get Used To, Would


NB!!! We use “Used to” to show a habitual past action or state that was true in the
past but is no longer true. “Used to” is generally not used with past-time expressions.
We use “Would” to express actions or states that occurred regularly during a
period in the past. We often use “Would” with past time expressions. “Used to” and
“Would” are similar in meaning when they express past actions. However, only “Used
to” can express past location, state of being, or possession.
I. Complete the following sentences with the correct forms of “used to”, “would”, “be
used to”, “get used to”. In some cases, you should take into account a verb given in
brackets.
1. In spring, we __________ (take) trips to the country. We ___________
sometimes buy fresh vegetables and fruits.
2. When I was a child, we __________ (have) the Persian cat.
3. There never __________ (be) a restaurant here.
4. Did you __________ like swimming at the university?
5. Every month he __________ buy his mother a bunch of daisies.

II. Complete the text with the present simple, present continuous, used to or would form
