ESSAY

The lesson
In this session, you will find out an issue
around you that related to government
administration. These are the steps that
you have to follow:
(a) Decide an issue;
(b) analyze the issue based on the
indicators (principles in government
administration);
(c) write an essay.
The essay is a written piece that is
designed to present an idea, propose
an argument, express the emotion or
initiate debate.
DIAGRAM OF ESSAY
An Essay has:
• a) A beginning: called introduction, this is the first in the essay;
• (b) A thesis sentence: generally located in the end of the introduction, this is
the most general, most important sentence in the essay. It contains controlling
ideas that limit and direct the rest of essay;
• (c) a middle: called the body of essay, theses paragraphs explain, define,
clarify, and illustrate the thesis sentence. Each body paragraph consist of a
topic sentence and several supporting sentences. The number of body
paragraphs depends on the length and complexity of the assignment;
• (d) an ending: called the conclusion of the essay, this paragraph ends the essay
by restating the thesis statement, offering a solution or recommendation or by
making a prediction.
