TASK/ASSINGMENT

Sept. 16,2021

Every year, on the 30th of December, the entire country commemorates the death
anniversary of Dr. Jose P. Rizal, our great national hero. As a way to honor Rizal's patriotism and
martyrdom, a Philippine flag is raised. Because of their victory over Spain in World War II,
Americans gained control of The Philippines. Rizal was declared a Philippine national hero in
1901 by American Governor-General William Howard Taft as a way to show that the Americans
were more pro-Filipino than the Spaniards. Philippine Commission passed Act No. 345 on
February 1, 1902, declaring December 30 a public holiday. As presidents proceeded to adopt
laws, December 30 became a national holiday.

This day is celebrated to recognize Rizal's contribution as a hero and as a role model to
Philippine culture. As Filipinos, we must honor this day since he has made a significant
contribution to our current independence. Allowing our patriotic ideals would be a good thing. In
honor of Rizal's immense passion for his nation, the Filipino people should commemorate and
remember Rizal's Day.
