What role does the economist play in society?

To find an answer to the question of what role does the economist play in society, one must first
define the term of economy itself the parameters of said society. However, the general purpose of the
economist has the same primary focus all around the globe, regardless of the other aspects this role
fulfils in different contexts.
As defined by Oxford’s Advanced American Dictionary, economy is “the relationship between
production, trade, and the supply of money in a particular country or region.” Therefore, an economist is
someone who overlooks these aspects, studies and analyses them thoroughly. Moreover, they monitor
economic trends, develop forcasts and conduct research regarding a plethora of different topics such as:
- Inflation
- Employment
- Energy cost
- Interest rates
- Rents
- Imports
- Prices
- Labor
This simply goes to show just what an irreplaceable resource economists are in modern day
society, as they make up the backbone of every major trading hub, while having a direct impact on the
neighbouring population adjacent to them.

Why have I opted for FSEGA Cluj-Napoca?

I have chosen to opt for continuing my studies at FSEGA due to the overwhelming amount of
praise this institution has received over the years from numerous official sources, as well as countless
accounts from students that it has prepared and set on course for a successful career by providing them
with the necessary resources and a good learning environment. Another factor that has greatly
influenced my decision was, in light of my own research, the strong international ties with projects such
as Erasmus this institution has, and the bountiful opportunities this naturally attracts for students.
On top that, the fact that it is part of the Babeș-Bolyai University makes it a highly credited
faculty with renowned staff members and professors. In addition, its high number of average students
that enrol from all around the country and in cases even from abroad assures a multicultural and highly
engaging academic environment. This is critical in shaping the minds of the young adults who come in
search of a horizon-widening experience, and as i myself am amongst that demographic of people, I am
absolutely certain this faculty is the right choice for me.

Why does specialising in economics suit me?

Studying economics means getting an in depth view into the mechanism that makes society
run. Through the understanding of an deeper level hidden behind the façade of shallow marketing
and advertising, one can come to comprehend what truly makes the gears turn, which provides a
certain mobility through countless situations that many could benefit from.
I consider myself a free spirit, and I believe that studying economics will provide me with
the necessary knowledge that grants freedom and mobility through the murky waters of present day
society. My long term goal and the fruits I seek to gather from this knowledge converge in the
creation of a personal start-up business, which will provide stability and room for gradual expansion
as well as the liberty to choose my own path.
