Rev. 15
Certificate Licensing: MyCentre WorkGroup Administrators

1. General
1.1 Introduction

This manual provides instructions for managing the following products:

 PSCAD: For permanent and temporary (trial / leasing) licensing, applicable to:

o PSCAD Professional Edition, versions 4.5.3 and later

o PSCAD Educational Edition, versions 4.5.4 and later

 FACE: For permanent and temporary (trial) licensing

Certificate licensing, also known as Advanced Licensing or Internet Licensing, is used for running the software.
Login credentials in an Internet-based user portal called MyCentre are used to authorize licensing, and a certificate
to run the software is checked out on the computer.

When a certificate is checked out, it may either be retained on that computer when the software is exited, or
returned to MyCentre so that another user may check it out. If the certificate is retained, it will initially be valid for
a specified period. If the license and checkout periods are not expired, the checkout period will be refreshed
whenever the software is re-launched with Internet access. The benefit to retaining a certificate on a machine is
that the software may be run for a period without requiring Internet access, making it portable.

The license for the certificate is held within MyCentre in a special grouping called a “workgroup”. A workgroup
contains products, such as certificate licensing, and authorized users, who are called “members”.

Access to a workgroup is controlled by a designated person (or people) within the organization. The designated
person is referred to as the “WorkGroup Administrator”, “Local Administrator” or simply “Administrator”. In
addition to adding and removing member access to the workgroup, the workgroup administrator may also
designate other members as additional administrators.

This manual provides all required instructions for the administrator to join and manage a workgroup.

1.2 Quick Start Instructions

For a shortened set of instructions, refer instead to the document “Quick Start – MyCentre WorkGroup
Administrators”, which may be downloaded from this webpage.

1.3 How to Use this Manual

Section 2 contains instructions for the workgroup administrator to set up the MyCentre user account and obtain
administrator privileges for a workgroup.

Section 3 contains instructions for managing a workgroup.

Section 4 contains instructions for setting up software on your own machine.

If you encounter any issues, please refer to Section 5 for troubleshooting tips and for contacting our support desk.

2. WorkGroup Administrator Setup

This section provides the steps for setting yourself up as a workgroup administrator in MyCentre, and should be
followed in the order presented.

2.1 Register a MyCentre User Account

A MyCentre user account is required for managing MyCentre groups. If you do not already have a MyCentre user
account, proceed as follows to register one:

a. Open a web browser, and go to the following link:

https://mycentre.hvdc.ca/register

Note
Firefox, Google Chrome or a later version of Internet Explorer are recommended.

b. Proceed through the registration process when prompted.

Note
If the “Next” button does not work during the registration, switch to a different browser.

c. Place a checkmark in the field as shown below:

d. If the registration process is successful, you will be informed that you have registered a MyCentre user
account, and that an e-mail with a temporary password has been sent to you, as shown below. Select
“Return to Home” to continue.

e. Obtain your temporary password from your e-mail account.

Note
If you have not received an e-mail with the password within a few minutes of finalizing the registration,
refer to Section 5.1.3 to troubleshoot the problem.

f. Proceed to Section 2.2 to log in to MyCentre.

2.4 Obtain WorkGroup Access and Administrator Privileges

2.4.1 Request

A request for workgroup access and administrator privileges should be directed as follows:

 To your organization’s WorkGroup Administrator if applicable.

 To our sales desk (sales@pscad.com), via your organization’s e-mail service. Ensure to include the
following information:

o Your full name

o Your MyCentre username (registration in MyCentre is required - Section 2.1)

o The name of your organization

o Your license number/s, if known

2.4.2 Instructions

Once you have requested workgroup access and workgroup administrator privileges (Section 2.4.1), this will be
granted to approved applicants in one of two manners:

a. Our sales desk can manually join the workgroup to your MyCentre user account and enable
administrator privileges. You will then be able to manage the workgroup as per Section 3.
(or)
b. You will be provided a join code that you will use to attach the licensed workgroup to your MyCentre
user account and enable administrator privileges. In this case, proceed as follows:
 Set up a MyCentre user account if not already done (Sections 2.1 to 2.3).

 Log in to MyCentre (Section 2.2).

 Display the “WORKGROUPS” tab.

3. Managing WorkGroups
This section provides instructions for managing MyCentre workgroups. These instructions are applicable to
individuals who have been set up as the administrator for a licensed workgroup as per Section 2.

3.1 Select a WorkGroup for Display

Select a workgroup for display as follows:

a. Log in to MyCentre (Section 2.2).

b. Select the “WORKGROUPS” tab.

c. Select the appropriate workgroup from the drop-down menu, for example:

d. The members, licenses, and join codes belonging to that workgroup will be available for viewing. To
view further information in any of these categories, select the corresponding “See More” button.

Note
Refer to Sections 3.2, 3.3, and 3.4 for managing the information in these categories.

Rev.15 Page 7

3.2 Managing Join Codes

This section provides instructions to perform all required tasks related to workgroup join codes, as follows:

 Review information pertaining to all generated join codes (Section 3.2.1).

 Generate a new join code (Section 3.2.2).
 Delete an existing join code (Section 3.2.3).

Join codes are generated by the workgroup administrator, and are provided to eligible applicants for joining a
workgroup. Once the individual is a member of the workgroup, he will have access to all of the products within
that workgroup.

Rev.15 Page 8
Certificate Licensing: MyCentre WorkGroup Administrators

3.2.1 Review your Join Code Information

If any join codes have been created within a workgroup, they may be reviewed as follows:

a. Select a workgroup for display (Section 3.1).

b. In the “Join Codes” field, select “See More”.

c. All join codes will be listed in table format, with the following information:

1. Generates a new join code (see Section 3.2.2).

2. Controls which join codes are displayed in the table. If un-checked, only current join codes are displayed. If
checked, the following additional join codes will also be displayed: Those that have previously expired, and
those whose Start/End dates are not current.
3. Displays a join code that was generated (per Section 3.2.2).
4. Displays the number of times the join code has been used for joining the workgroup.
5. Displays the maximum number of times the join code may be used for joining the workgroup.
6. Displays the date that the join code expires.
7. If populated, this column displays the earliest date that a user becomes a “member” of the workgroup.
8. If populated, this column displays the date in which a user ceases to be a member of the workgroup.
9. If “Admin” is listed in this column, workgroup administrator privileges are assigned to anyone using this join
code.
10. Selecting the “X” in this column will delete the corresponding join code (see Section 3.2.3).

Rev.15 Page 9
Certificate Licensing: MyCentre WorkGroup Administrators

3.2.2 Generate a Join Code

A join code may be generated as follows:

a. Select a workgroup for display (Section 3.1).

b. In the “Join Codes” field, select “See More”.

c. Select “Generate Code”.

d. When the “Generate Code” dialog box displays, select “Advanced Options” to display further features.

Rev.15 Page 10
Certificate Licensing: MyCentre WorkGroup Administrators

e. Configure the join code as follows:

1. This is a mandatory field: The date in which the join code will expire. After this expiration date, the join code
may no longer be used to join the workgroup.
Note
This expiration date is not related to a user’s membership within a workgroup, but only to the join code
itself. Once becoming a member of the workgroup, the user remains a member until removed. Removal
may be performed as per Section 3.3.3.

2. This field is optional: The maximum number of times the join code may be used to join a workgroup. This field
may be used to help restrict access to this workgroup.
Note
If this field left empty, there is no restriction on the number of times a join code may be used.

3. This field is optional: The earliest date in which a user may become a member of the workgroup. For example,
if the join code is used to join a workgroup prior to the listed “Start Date”, the user will only be given access to
the workgroup products on this date. Conversely, if the join code is used for joining a workgroup after the
“Start Date”, the user will have access to the workgroup products immediately.
Note
If this field is left blank, the user will become a member of the workgroup immediately upon using the join
code, unless the code is expired or deleted.

4. This field is optional: The date in which a user ceases to be a member of the workgroup. After this date, the
user will no longer have access to the workgroup products.
Notes
 If this field is left blank, a user will not automatically cease to be a member of the workgroup, and will
therefore continue to be able to use the workgroup products.
 See Section 3.3.3 for manual restriction.
5. This field is optional: Check this checkbox only if all members using this join code are to be assigned
workgroup administrator privileges.
6. Select “Generate” to generate a join code with your selections.

f. Proceed to Section 3.3.2 to invite members to join the workgroup.

Rev.15 Page 11
Certificate Licensing: MyCentre WorkGroup Administrators

3.2.3 Delete a Join Code

Once a join code has been created, its features may not be altered. Therefore, if any join code’s features are
incorrect, then the join code should simply be deleted, and a new, correct join code generated and provided to
eligible individuals.

Note
If a member has already used the join code to join a workgroup, deleting that join code does not remove
the member’s access. To remove a member’s access to a workgroup, refer to Section 3.3.3.

Delete a join code from a workgroup as follows:

a. Select a workgroup for display (Section 3.1).

b. In the “Join Codes” field, select “See More”.

c. Place a checkmark in the “Show Expired” field to ensure that all join codes are displayed (leaving this
unchecked will not display codes that have previously expired, as well as those with Start/End dates
that are not current).

d. Click on the button associated with the join code to be deleted.

e. Select “Continue” to proceed:

f. The code will be deleted.

3.3 Managing WorkGroup Members

This section provides instructions for the workgroup administrator to manage the members within a workgroup.

Members of a workgroup are individuals whose MyCentre user account has been joined to a workgroup,
effectively allowing them access to all of the products within that workgroup.

This section provides instructions for performing the following tasks:

 Review information pertaining to all members (Section 3.3.1).

 Add members to a workgroup (Section 3.3.2).
 Remove members from a workgroup (Section 3.3.3).
 Assign workgroup administrator privileges to a member (Section 3.3.4).
 Remove workgroup administrator privileges for a member (Section 3.3.5).

Rev.15 Page 13
Certificate Licensing: MyCentre WorkGroup Administrators

3.3.1 Review your Member Information

If any members have joined a workgroup, their information may be reviewed as follows:

a. Select a workgroup for display (Section 3.1).

b. In the “Members” field, select “See More”.

c. All members will be displayed in table format, with the following information:

1. When this checkbox is checked, all members in this workgroup will be selected (see checkbox (8)). Also,
buttons (9) and (10) will become active.
2. Lists a member’s first name.
3. Lists a member’s last name.
4. Lists a member’s MyCentre username.
5. Lists a member’s e-mail address.
6. Indicates whether a member is also a workgroup administrator for this workgroup. For example, in the above
screenshot, John Doe is an administrator, but Jane Doe is not.
7. This toggle is used to sort the administrators either to the top or bottom of the listing.
8. When this checkbox is checked, buttons (9) and (10) become active, and may be applied to the corresponding
member/s.
Note
This field is not available to the member who is viewing the workgroup. For example, in the above
screenshot, “John Doe” is viewing the workgroup, and therefore checkbox (8) is not available for this
member.

9. This button assigns or revokes a member’s administrator privileges (see Sections 3.3.4 and 3.3.5).
10. This button removes a member from a workgroup (see Section 3.3.3).
Note
There is no button for adding a member to a workgoup; to add a member, refer to Section 3.3.2.

Rev.15 Page 14
Certificate Licensing: MyCentre WorkGroup Administrators

3.3.2 Add Members to a WorkGroup

When an individual becomes a member of a workgroup, he gains access to all of the products within that
workgroup. A workgroup is joined by using a “join code”, which is generated and provided by the workgroup
administrator.

Join a member to a workgroup as follows:

a. Generate a join code (Section 3.2.2).

b. Provide the following to the user:
 The join code.

 A link to the software if available.

If a download link is not available, direct the member to request a download from our sales desk
(sales@pscad.com). In this request, direct the member to include the name of your organization,
and the workgroup number and/or license number.

The member’s request to our sales desk should come from your organization’s e-mail service; for
example, it should not come from a personal e-mail address.

 The applicable setup instructions, as follows:

 PSCAD: Setup instructions are located in this article.

 FACE: Setup instructions are located in this article.

 WorkGroup Administrator: Setup instructions are posted in this article.

Rev.15 Page 15

3.3.3 Remove Members from a WorkGroup

There are two ways to remove a member from a workgroup:

a. If the individual is already currently a member of the workgroup, his membership may be removed as
follows:
 Select a workgroup for display (Section 3.1).
 In the “Members” field, select “See More”.

 Place a checkmark next to the member/s to be removed from the workgroup, and select
“Remove Selected Members”. For example:

 The member Jane Doe will be removed from the workgroup.

Note
A user cannot remove his own membership from a workgroup. Membership may only be
removed by another member.

b. If the individual is not already currently a member of the workgroup, he may be given a join code that
specifies when his membership will automatically end, as follows:
 Enter an “End Date” as per Section 3.2.2, Step (e) Note (4).

Rev.15 Page 16
Certificate Licensing: MyCentre WorkGroup Administrators

3.3.4 Assign WorkGroup Administrator Privileges

More than one administrator may manage a workgroup, and redundancy is in fact recommended to help ensure
that at least one administrator is always available.

There are two methods for providing administrator privileges to an individual, as follows:

a. Use a Join Code: This method would typically be performed when multiple members will be obtaining
administrator privileges, as follows:
 Generate a join code as per Section 3.2.2, ensuring to check the “Admin” checkbox at Step (e),
substep (5).
 Invite the member to join the workgroup as per Section 3.3.2, Steps (a) and (b).

b. Directly Assign Administrator Privileges: This method would typically be performed when only one or
two members will be obtaining administrator privileges, as follows:
 Select a workgroup for display (Section 3.1).
 In the “Members” field, select “See More”.

 Place a checkmark next to the member to be assigned as administrator, and select “Make/Revoke
Admin”. For example:

 The selected member will be assigned administrator privileges, as determined by the added
“Admin” symbol. For example, Jane Doe has been granted administrator privileges:

Rev.15 Page 17
Certificate Licensing: MyCentre WorkGroup Administrators

3.3.5 Revoke WorkGroup Administrator Privileges

Revoke workgroup administrator privileges from a member as follows:

a. Select a workgroup for display (Section 3.1).

b. In the “Members” field, select “See More”.

c. Place a checkmark next to the member to have administrator privileges revoked, and select
“Make/Revoke Admin”. For example:

d. The selected member’s administrator privileges will be removed, as indicated by the absence of the
“Admin” symbol. For example, Jane Doe no longer has administrator privileges:

3.4 Managing Licenses

This section provides instructions for managing the licenses within a workgroup.

Licenses that are contained within a workgroup are used to authorize software downloads and licensing. The
members who have joined a workgroup are provided access to this software and licensing.

This section provides instructions for performing the following tasks:

 Review information pertaining to all licenses (Section 3.4.1).

 Activate or return a license (Section 3.4.2).

Rev.15 Page 19
Certificate Licensing: MyCentre WorkGroup Administrators

3.4.1 Review your Licenses

If any licenses have been assigned to this workgroup, they may be reviewed as follows:

a. Select a workgroup for display (Section 3.1).

b. In the “Licenses” field, select “See More”.

c. All licenses will be displayed in table format, with the following information:

1. Displays the license’s unique identification number.

2. Sorts the license identification numbers in ascending or descending order.
3. Displays some description about the organization and type of license.
4. Displays the license expiration date. In the above example, the license is permanent, and therefore there is no
expiration date shown. If this license were temporary, for example a trial or a lease, an expiration date would
be shown.
5. Displays the product type, for example, PSCAD or FACE.
6. Displays which features are included with the product.
7. If a certificate is currently checked out as a certificate to one of the members, this column will list the
member’s name or username. This information helps the workgroup administrator to manage licenses and
members as needed.
8. If a certificate is currently checked out to a member, this column displays when the checkout period expires.
Note
When a certificate is checked out, it may be set to either be retained or returned when the software is
exited. If retained, it will remain checked out on that computer and unavailable to other members with a
specifed checkout period; the checkout period will be refreshed to a new period whenever the software is
launched online (unless the checkout expires (Note 8) or the license itself expires (Note 4)). Or, if returned,
the certificate will be returned to MyCentre so that it may be activated on a different machine.

9. When this link is activated, a message will display indicating that only certificate licenses will be listed in this
webpage; USB lock licenses are not listed. However, if there are any questions about your certificate licensing,
please contact our sales desk (sales@pscad.com).

Rev.15 Page 20
Certificate Licensing: MyCentre WorkGroup Administrators

3.4.2 Activate or Return a Certificate

This section provides information related to activating or returning a certificate.

Activating or returning a certificate is normally performed by the member in accordance with the instructions
provided in Section 3.3.2 Step (c).

However, unexpected circumstances may make it necessary to force a certificate to be returned, for example, if
the computer were to break with the certificate still activated on it. In this situation, a request to return the
certificate may be sent to our Support Desk (see Section 5.2). Please ensure the request includes all relevant
information, including the circumstances of this return, the certificate number, and the workgroup number. The
certificate will be returned upon approval.

5.1.3 Blocked E-mails

When registering a new MyCentre user account (Section 2.1), or resetting your password (Section 5.1.2), you
should receive an automatically generated e-mail with password information shortly after submitting the request
(usually within a few minutes).

If you did not receive this e-mail, the following may be considered:

 The auto-generated e-mail may be filed in your “Junk” e-mail folder.

 For a password reset, if you enter an incorrect username/e-mail address in the “Username” field, the
auto-generated e-mail will not be sent to you.

 If your organization is blocking auto-generated e-mails, the MyCentre e-mail would likely be blocked.
Have your IT staff set their server to not block e-mails from mycentre@hvdc.ca, then reset your
password as per Section 5.1.2.

Or, if your IT staff may not unblock these e-mails, register a new MyCentre user account using a
different e-mail address on a different network (e.g. home). Once you have received your temporary
password over this other network, you may use it to log in to MyCentre on either network.
