1) Supervision requirements for social work licensing.

 An approved supervisor for social workers seeking to license has met the

following standards: fulfilled educational requirements, has the proper scope,

focus, and responsibilities of practice, have supervised experience, and passes the

licensing examination.

 Some states require about 1000 to 3000 hours of professional work experience,

especially post-degree. Experienced or trained supervisors should further

supervise these hours.

 Documentation is required annually or when requested by a random audit of

licenses. A social worker can document by identifying sources of potential

continuing education such as conferences, in-service education, academic courses,

webinars, and other online training.

2) NASW (National Association of Social Workers) Best Practices in supervision

 A social worker’s responsibilities include: assessing clients by getting to know

them on a multidimensional level to determine the most effective way to work

towards attaining positive change, create and implement a treatment plan, secure

and refer needed resources, evaluate and monitor improvement, and serve as the

client’s advocate.

 The NASW Code of Ethics is guided by six ethical principles: service, social

justice, dignity and self-worth, the importance of human relationships, integrity,

and competence.
 Supervision in my agency is in line with NASW’s best practices. It uses ideal

approaches for specific clients based on its values and research on effectiveness

and client’s best interests and wishes.
