Why I want to study Law?

I have never been a good student. I always thought that school was just a place for me to
meet my friends and fool around. I never really liked studying, much less attending classes. I thought
that I am too young and free to waste my time studying, doing assignments, and things a proper
student would. Entering college, I felt lost. I never really knew what I wanted for my future. Everyday
was a struggle for me just to get by. I knew that I need a purpose; something to keep me going. Then,
I decided to make myself better. I focused myself on the things that are worth my time, and took a
pause to reflect on the things that I did before. That is when I realized that I shouldn’t waste away
myself with the things I used to enjoy.

I entered Law school because I saw this as an opportunity for me to have a fresh start with
my life. I wanted to prove to myself that I can be better, and even though I had a rough start with my
journey as a student it would be possible for me to finish strong. I know law school is tough. I
recognize that the study of law is demanding, but I am hopeful that the study of law is a pursuit that is
worth one’s while.

At this point of my life, I want to grow. I want to keep getting better; and there is no better
place to develop than in an unfamiliar setting. Getting here in law school is a way for me to get out of
my comfort zone. No one grows when they are comfortable. I want to challenge myself by doing
things that I am not used to; things that will forge me to become a better man, a better lawyer. I
understand that failure is a part of life, and more so in law school. But I am hoping that come what
may I will be steadfast in my commitment of reaching my goal. Before I finish, I want to quote
scripture. The Psalmist wrote in the 30 th psalm “weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with
the morning.”
