During environmental scanning and analysis, you uncovered a number of strengths, weaknesses,
opportunities and threats. Now you’re ready to refine the SWOT analysis for use in marketing planning.
Often carrying out an analysis using the SWOT framework reveals changes that can be useful for an
organization. Strengths are internal capabilities that can help firm achieve marketing plan objectives;
Weaknesses are internal factors that might prevent firm from achieving objectives; Opportunities are external
circumstances that can be exploited to achieve objectives; and Threats are external circumstances that might
prevent firm from achieving marketing plan objectives.
