DENGUE CONTROL AND PREVENTION IN BARANGAY CALUMPANG,

MABALACAT CITY, PAMPANGA

Situation Description

Dengue is the most common and most reported vector-borne disease in the Philippines. This
disease is higher in tropical and subtropical countries such as the Philippines, especially during
the wet or rainy season wherein rainwater collected forms breeding sites for these vectors in the
canals and stagnant water buildup. This disease is present all year long and can affect any age
group. Though this disease is common, it has a high fatality rate especially to children aged 5-9
years old having no specific treatment and early symptoms being ignored.

On July 15, 2019, several regions recorded a fast increase in the number of Dengue cases in the
Philippines that brought about the declaration of a National Dengue Alert according to Health
Secretary Francisco T. Duque III. One of the provinces that was highly affected by dengue virus
is Pampanga, particularly, the city of Mabalacat with 230 cases or 16% of the total cases in the
province last August 2019.

Many Dengue virus (DENV) infections only produce mild illness with acute flu-like symptoms,
which can potentially progress into a fatal condition called severe dengue if not detected early
and if not given proper medical attention. The burden brought about by Dengue to the family
may be alarming due to the high cost of treatment and admission and unproductivity caused by
illness and premature death.

Purpose of the Intervention

The purpose of this project is to increase awareness on dengue in Brgy. Calumpang, Mabalacat
City, and to provide measures in preventing and controlling dengue uprise.

This intervention is aligned with Sustainable Development Goals number 3 and 6.

people. It aims to end the epidemics of neglected tropical diseases such as dengue. Sustainable
Development Goals number 6 aims of having a Clean Water and Sanitation as it improves the
water quality that will reduce pollution, eliminate dumping, remove breeding sites and halve the
proportion of untreated wastewater.

● Basically, the reporter should be able to elaborate all activities clearly to the audience.

Chemicals - 500 php

Misting equipment prices ranges from 5000 to 8000+php

Pinakamarami yung budget sa activity number 6 (23,000php) kase hygiene ng buong activities
talaga yung isang huge factor to reduce mosquito infestation. Collective effort talaga ng buong
community need para malabanan yung mosquito infestation.

Output
Through the coordination of rural health units, parent leaders, and barangay local government
units, the residents of Barangay Calumpang will be informed about dengue, disease transmission,
prevention, and treatment. Through health teaching, household heads will be able to search and
destroy mosquito-breeding sites, seek early consultation when there is suspected dengue
infection, protect oneself, and say yes to fogging only in hotspot areas. Clean up drive and
misting are necessary to ultimately reduce the number of mosquito-infested areas in Barangay
Calumpang, Mabalacat City.

Documentation
● Distribute survey questionnaires to determine how well the residents of Calumpang,
Mabalacat City, Pampanga know about dengue and its disease transmission, prevention,
and treatment.
● Write a field report regarding the total number of mosquito breeding sites after the
intervention.
● Record the number of dengue cases in the barangay annually and compare the records to
see if enhancement of the program is necessary.
Impact
To achieve the desired impacts, the dengue prevention program can reduce the morbidity and
mortality rates through the intervention in need to stop and kill the mosquitoes breeding.
The impact of this program to people living in the barangay can help to minimize the health
impact of dengue by further reducing dengue cases to the community and to strengthen the
prevention against dengue.
