The following paragraphs will lead you towards the understanding

of what this course consist of. Make sure to understand everything
and internalize it. This is similar to a contract that I expect you all to
follow and respect. Welcome to this course
LEARNING A FOREIGN LANGUAGE
 Respect others ideas
 Don’t make fun of your classmates’ participation.
 We can make mistakes about the grammar, speaking or any other skill in this
course because it’s a normal process of learning. However, it’s important to
correct them while you gain more knowledge about the language.
 Get familiar with the language outside the class. Listen to music in English, read the
lyrics of the songs, watch videos in English with subtitles, try to chat in English
using simple language, read short stories like fables or short tales for kids in
English, practice doing exercises online over and over again.
 Don’t be afraid of asking the teacher any question when you don’t understand.
 Study everyday what is learned in the class, that way your final exam results will be
more favorable.
 Try to use English the most you can in class because the more you use the
language, the better your understanding will be.
 Always use a dictionary to look for a word. Don’t expect the teacher to tell you
always the answer to everything. Always read the different definitions a dictionary
offers, don’t look just at the first word.

DURING A VIDEO CONFERENCE

 Every time there is a virtual meeting, enter the conference room with your
microphone off.
 When you’re going to participate in the meeting, always mention your name
before starting to speak (never mind if that’s your second, third, fourth etc.
intervention)
 If you’re talking to the teacher or your classmates during a meeting and you need
to say something to someone in your house, turn off the microphone while doing
so (nobody needs to know what’s going on in your house).
ABOUT THE ACTIVITIES IN THE PLATFORM
 There will always be activities to be done. Therefore, you need to constantly check
your virtual space. (the teacher will let you know the length of time and deadlines
for each activity).
 There will usually be a quiz on the weekends (Saturday or Sunday) about the unit
worked during the weekdays. The quiz will be usually every weekend at the same
time, so make sure you all can be online and available.
 The deadlines for the assignments are fixed and will not be changed, unless
something extraordinary happens. (distribute your time properly and don’t expect
to do everything by the last minute).
 You will always find in your platform a space called “communication” where you
can ask questions, ask for clarification or mention anything you want related to
what is being worked during the week.
 The midterm exams will be through the platform, so make sure that day you have
everything planned remember the bullet point about the deadline.

GRADING
I will evaluate two aspects in this course and they will be an informal evaluation and a
formal evaluation.
In the informal evaluation I will consider:

 Delivering the assignments respecting the deadlines.

 Engagement with the course you’re studying.
 Constant interaction in the platform.
 Readiness and willingness to learn the topics worked.
In the formal evaluation I will consider.

Midterm exams (final exams) 40%

Each exam will have a vocabulary section, grammar section, reading section, writing
section and a listening section)

Quizzes 20% (they can be grammar, vocabulary, speaking, reading or listening quizzes)

Assignments 15%(they might integrate all the skills such as listening, reading, writing,

them)
