Taking phone simple message: cara untuk menjawab telepon
dengan benar dalam Bahasa Inggris. Taking phone simple message
dibedakan menjadi 2, yaitu formal dan informal.
• Formal: biasa digunakan dalam situasi yang formal (bisnis, dunia
kerja, dan orang yang lebih tua.
• Informal: biasa digunakan dalam situasi tidak formal atau situasi
sehari-hari (dengan teman sebaya)

• Formal phone: biasa digunakan dalam situasi yang formal (bisnis,
dunia kerja, dan orang yang lebih tua.
• Making a Phone Expression (ekspresi menelepon)
– Hello, my name is …. I would like to speak to Mr/Mrs.
– Can I speak to …..
– May I speak to Mr/Mrs?
• Responses:
– Hello, Mr/Mrs….. can I help you?
– Mr/Mrs….. May I help you.
– What can I do for you?
– I will direct your call to ….
• Responses for unavailable someone:
– I am sorry, Mr/Mrs ….. is on meeting at this moment.
– I am sorry Mr/Mrs … is not in today
– I am afraid Mr/Mrs …. Is not in the office this time.
– I am afraid Mr/Mrs …. Is not able to answer your call.
• Taking a message:
Can I take a message?
Would you like to leave a message?
Can I give him/her a message?
I’ll tell Mr. Jones that you called.

Informal Phone
Informal: biasa digunakan dalam situasi tidak formal atau situasi sehari-
hari (dengan teman sebaya). Dalam percakapan tidak formal dalam
telepon kita bisa menggunakan bahasa kita sehari-hari.

Father : Hello.
Pip : Hey is Sasha there?
Father : Uh, yeah. Who’s this?
Pip : It’s Pip.
Father : Hang on just a second (wait a minute), Pip… Sasha, phone’s

Sasha : Who is it?
Pip : It’s Pip.
Sasha : Hey, what’s up (slang way to say “What are you doing?”)
Pip : Nothing. Just chillin‘ (relaxing) at home. How bout you?
Sasha : Just hanging out.
Pip : You wanna grab a bite (go out for food)?
Sasha : Sure, what were you thinking?
Pip : Let’s just go out and find something. I’m down for whatever
(I’ll eat anything).
Sasha : Sounds good… I’m starving (really hungry).
