Socrative

By: Naomi Bolden

Purpose
Socrative is a cloud-based student response system. It allows teachers to create simple quizzes that students can take quickly on
laptops, classroom tablets or their own smartphones. This webpage allows parents and students to receive quick and easy results
with a physical copy and quick access to said results when requested from a teacher.

Socrative in 90 seconds – This is a video from the Socrative’s official YouTube channel. It goes over how to add students to a quiz,
how to view the results and the many ways one can receive and save the results. This video is a quick yet productive overview of
the web and mobile application.

Features
1. Socrative Pre-assessments allows teachers to assess how well the class understands a subject. This gives teachers the
opportunity to cater to the needs of students in a more targeted manner which helps with lesson planning. This is an
important function because it shows that the website is not only useful for assessments but also for learning.
2. Question Library is a helpful and resourceful feature on Socrative’s website. It keeps and stores a teacher’s questions and
prior work so that one can reuse and reapply those questions to different lessons and quizzes. This is a feature that is useful
for the classroom because when a teacher is giving larger cumulative assessments prior questions are stored and ready to
use.
3. The help topics button is extremely useful and convenient to users. Whether it is a teacher or student seeking help, this
option is within easy access to the webpage that answers any questions or concerns. This is useful in the classroom because it
is a quick resource for troubleshooting. This webpage cuts time when one encounters an issue with the software and does not
require an IT department’s help. Ultimately this saves a lot of potentially wasted class time.
4. Live results are a way for teachers to experience the test with their students. This feature is important because it allows an
educator to know where students are struggling, the speed with which students answer questions, and how to better serve
those in their classroom. This is an important function because it allows one to monitor progress and see how students are
doing while they participate in assessments.
5. The option for teachers to choose how they will receive their reports is also a great function. It lists the available options
email, download, google drive, view chart, and view later. This feature is important because it gives teachers a choice of
preference and is convenient in the classroom setting. For example, if it is a practice test, my students and I can look over the
results instantly. While if it is a more private and important test, I can sweep the results to the side and move on with our
class time.

Possible Improvements
1. Describe the possible improvement. Explain why this is a needed improvement.
2. One improvement for Socrative would be to make the “clear classroom” choice more specific and interactive. The website
Socrative
By: Naomi Bolden
would benefit from allowing users to pick specific students' names rather than making an entire class exit from the test. This
is a necessary improvement because the current process is tedious in adding and readding users while this improvement
would save class time and make for a smooth transition when necessary.
3. A final improvement for Socrative would be to allow users that are subscribed to the free version to launch more than 1 test
at a time. This would give teachers the opportunity to do multiple assessments at once, which is sometimes necessary for the
classroom. It would be beneficial to users because more than one launch is possible in the paid subscriptions and the price is
too expensive for some users. If Socratic included as little as one more launch in their free version, it would bring more
teachers to their platform and make them a front running competitor for online testing.
