Comparatives and Superlatives.

We use comparatives to compare two things.

e.g. Sofia is taller than Antonia

e.g. Children are happier than adults

e.g. A Mercedes is more expensive than a Suzuki

No. of Add -er Add -ier Add more/less


syllables + adjective
1 Syllable e.g. Tall(er)
2 Syllable e.g. Happ(ier)
ending in ‘y’
2 or more More/less
syllables expensive

If I want to say two things are different, I use a comparative like above.

If I want to say two things are the same, I could use the following structure.

Sofia is as tall as Antonia (Subject + am/are/is + AS + Adjective + AS + Object)

Superlatives;
We use superlatives to compare one thing with many things e.g.

e.g. Sofia is the tallest

e.g. Children are the happiest

e.g. A Mercedes is the most expensive.
