CHAPTER 4

Presentation, Analysis and Interpretation of Data

This chapter overseen the presentation, analysis and interpretation

of data gathered by the researchers from 11-10 Humanities and Social

Sciences students. This study aims to determine which of the two

teaching strategies differ among the data and information gathered. The

researchers applied data analysis using tables to how the frequency and

percentage of all the data. Present data were studied and documents

were examined to answer the questions communicated in the statement

of the problem. The table shown below is arranged according to the

sequence of specific questions.

Table 1.1 Show the number of respondents from the Higher School and

College students from the University of Makati. Accordingly, 27 students

are from the Higher School of the University of Makati which constitutes

a percentage of 60 and college students which constitutes a percentage

of 40.

Table 1.2 Shows the Age of 45 students from Higher School of the

University of Makati and College. 10 or 22.22% of the total Age are from

the 16 years old and 17 years old students; 11 or 24.44% of the total

Age are from the 18 years old students; 6 or 13.33% of the total Age are

from the 19 years old students; 5 or 11.11% of the total Age are from the

20 years old students and 3 or 6.64% are from the 21 years old

students. The population is comprised of students from University of

Makati.

Table 1.3 shows the Higher School and College students/respondents

table according to their gender. There are 14 female from the HSU with

a 31.11% and male students of 13 with a 28.88%.

For college students, there are 6 females with 13.33% and 12 male with

a 26.66%. The total respondents are 45 students equivalent to 100%.

The table 2.0 consist the college students who chose traditional way of

teaching and 21st

Century way of teaching 66.66% (12) of them vote 21st century way of

teaching and 33.33% (6) vote traditional way of teaching with the total of

100% (18). While the HSU (Higher school of UMAK) vote 37.03% (10)

Traditional strategy way of teaching and 62.96% (17) of them vote 21st

century way of teaching with the total of 100% (27).

The researchers conducted a survey asking students from the Higher

School and the College. 17 students from the Higher School answered

for the 21st century. The following are their own opinion about the

question “In your opinion, what is the difference between 21 st and

traditional way of teaching?”

o ”The use of technology helps us to improve the learning process.”

o “Alternative learning style helps us to enjoy while learning our

tasks in school.”

o “Digital technology is used to include easy access to information

and convenience in education.”

o “White board helps us at the back to clearly see the lessons

written on board.”

o “In our generation, internet is very useful for us because it is

easier to search on internet than to read more books.”

o “Modern way to teaching uses powerpoint presentation to demo

the lessons to students.”

Opposed to that are the 10 students answered that Traditional

teaching strategy is way better than 21 st. The following are their

personal opinion regarding the question.

o “Not using a gadget will help us to focus on their study.”

o “Manila paper and visual aid are tools that help me to make a

lesson clearer or easier to understand.”

o “I can easily understand and recall the lessons if they write the

lessons.”

o “The traditional way of teaching is more on point because the

teachers are the main source of learning.”

o “Books are more helpful to me because it gives knowledge.”

o “Students taught proper values and to respect others.”

o “Teachers should be the one who is disciplined first so that the

students will adopt their personality.”

The students from the college answered the question “In your opinion,

what is the difference between 21st and Traditional way of teaching. The

following are their personal opinion regarding the question asked.

The students and teachers is going to find the assigned topics

manually on the books and every readers will get extra knowledge, the

teaching method were simple and manual.

o “It helps to add extra knowledge because you will find it on the

book.”

o “The method of teaching is manual if the teacher write something

then they will explain it eventually.”

o “The students or the teachers will find their topics manually in the

books.”

o Every topics will be written and explain while using visual aids

tool such as manila paper.

o “The traditional way of teacher is detailed because every topic is

explained one by one.”

o “Every topic assigned will explain and give some written

examples.”

o “The materials of teaching in traditional are manila paper, chalks

and visual aids.”

o “The teachers will talk and demonstrate while the students are

listening and do something if the teacher asked to.”

o “The flow of discussion is simple the teacher will talk and the

student will listen.”

o “The students will do nothing but only to listen while the teacher

is talking.”

o “The teacher will put much attention on the students.”

Some other college students stated the following statement as their

opinion regarding the question.

o “This way of teaching is quietly advance because it requires a lot

of tools and gadgets

the tools and gadgets is advance.”

o “Multiple gadgets was used because some of the activities requires

it.”

o “The lessons and topics is assigned by series and parts every topic

is going to followed by next part of it.”

o “Every lesson has a series of steps from beginning to the end.”

o “Every teaching has a style according to lessons.”

o “The use of technologies stuff.”

o “Applications and tools/gadgets is used to demonstrate and

explain the topic.”

o “Not just technologies this style of teaching has advance gadgets

and tools.”

o “You can take lessons and assignments on web with E-

classroom.”

o “Most of the lessons is visualized by power points.”

o “The use of technology while studying.”

The researchers conducted a survey asking about “Which of the two

strategies (Traditional and 21 st) do students prefer?” 11 students from

college answered 21st century teaching strategy. The following are their

personal answers regarding the question being asked.

o “You can learn and explore through internet.”

o “I have advance technology which helps me more to learn new

things.”

o “It is helpful for us student, we can learn the way we can.”

o “It is more understandable and easy to cope up by the use of

technology.”

o “21st century is updated and modern.”

Opposed to that are the 7 students from College who answered

Traditional teaching strategy. The following are their own answer about

the question being asked.

o “Traditional is way more productive even without the use of

technology.”

o “Teachers are good at disciplining us, students.”

o “Teachers are the main source of information.”

o “We experience a hands-on from our teachers.”

From the Higher School students of the University of Makati, there are

a total of 27 students being asked, 17 answered 21 st century. The

following are their personal answer regarding the question.

o “It helps us doing our school works.”

o “The way of teaching is modern.”

o “It helps us learn easier than Traditional.”

o “We have a lot to learn because we are not force to study.”

o “Modern technologies invented help us in school.”

o “It makes me comfortable talking to my teachers.”

o “I can learn more using technology.”

Opposing the 21st century teaching strategy is the 10 students from

the Higher School of the University of Makati answered Traditional

teaching strategies. The answered below are their personal statement

about the question asked.

o “I have to experience hardship first for me to improve my critical

thinking.”

o “It is easier.”

o “I can learn more by reading books and searching manually.”

o “I can manage my time very well because there are no

distractions.”

are 27 respondents from the Higher School of the University of Makati

and 18 respondents from the College students. 11 students answered

for totally disagree with a 40.74 %, 2 students answered somewhat

disagree with 7.41%, 2 students answered don’t agree with 7.41%, 3

students answered somewhat agree with a 11.11%, 9 students answered

totally agree with 33.33%.

From the college students, o answered for totally disagree with a 0%, 6

answered somewhat disagree with 33.33%, 4 students answered don’t

know with 22.22%, 4 students answered somewhat agree with 22.22%

and same as totally agree answered by 4 students with 22.22%.

The table 2.3 consist college students vote 94.44% (17) of them

voted yes in the question of "Does modern teaching help the

The table 2.3 consist college students vote 94.44% (17) of them voted

yes in the question of "Does modern teaching help the students to be

more active in class?" And 5.55 (1) voted No in the same question with

the total of 100% (18).

The HSU Students who voted yes on the same question was 6.66% (18)

and the HSU Students who vote no was 33.33% (9) with the total 100%

(27).

Table 2.5 shows the table of the data analysis on the question “What

teaching style is best for today’s students?” There are 27 respondents

from the Higher School of the University of Makati and 18 respondents

from the College students.

11 students answered Traditional way of teaching with a 40.74% and 16

answered 21st century way of teaching with 59.26% from the Higher

School students. 5 answered Traditional way of teaching with 27.78%

and 13 answered for 21 st century way of teaching with a 72.22% from

college students.
